Surgical Orthodontics / Orthognathics

People come in all shapes and sizes and jaws come the same way.

Occasionally, jaws do not always develop in the most ideal way, and braces alone cannot resolve orthodontic issues.

Orthognathics and TADs can be employed with braces to achieve facial balance and harmony.

Dr. Carolyn has undergone extensive training in the placement and application of TADs as well as in the coordination of orthognathics with specialist Maxillofacial surgeons.

Orthognathics and jaw surgery

Why do I need Jaw Surgery?

Image Description

Variations in skeletal development can cause severe issues including:

  • Malocclusions like under, over or open bites
  • Difficulties with chewing food
  • Difficulties with speech
  • Headaches and jaw pain
  • Facial aesthetics

With careful planning and discussion, these issues can be resolved with jaw surgery.

What are orthodontic TADs (Temporary Anchorage Device)?

TADs act like a mini temporary anchor to help move those really stubborn teeth.

Similar to dental implant, they are make from a Titanium alloy but unlike dental implants, they are only placed as a temporary device.

TADs can help speed up movement by providing a stable anchor point to pull and push teeth from.

Dr Carolyn's Pro-Tip:

Not eveyone needs surgery or TADs. Whilst there are benefits to each, treatment modalities still exist that can minimise the need for these strategies.

The placement of a TAD, whilst sounding daunting, is a fairly straight-forward process and can be done with minimal discomfort under Local Anaesthesia.

If you choose to undergo surgery, we work with some of the best Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in the profession to ensure you get the best treatment outcome.
