Orthodontic Retention

Orthodontic Retention

Like all parts of the body, teeth and jaws continue to change throughout life. This is no different for patients that have had orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontic retention is a crucial part of orthodontic treatment. After your braces or clear aligners are removed, it's important to wear a retainer to maintain the results of your treatment.

All orthodontic patients at Smile Hawthorn will have a customised retention scheme that suits the needs of their teeth and jaws.

We offer both removable and fixed retainers that are made when your teeth are straight and you are happy with the result.

Image Description

Wearing a retainer after orthodontic treatment helps to prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original position. Without proper retention, your teeth can start to shift, undoing the progress made during your orthodontic treatment.

As teeth are always moving, having a retainer minimises the movements to ensure your smile looks great.

If your retainer breaks, make sure to get it repaired or replaced as soon as possible.
