Routine Checkup & Clean

Dental Check & Teeth Cleaning

As dental concerns rarely cause significant discomfort in their early stages, they can go undetected until they are quite severe, requiring extensive and expensive treatment.

Routine checks can help detect these problems in their early stage therefore making management simpler and more affordable.

What is the benefit of a Routine Dental Check?

Image Description

Routine dental checks aim to determine:

  • The state of your teeth and gums
  • Whether any fillings are required
  • Whether existing dental work is in good condition
  • The presence of oral cancer or other pathologies
  • The need for other allied or specialist care
  • Your level of hygiene and discuss any tips for improvement

Dr Andrew's Pro-Tip:
How often should I have a dental checkup and clean?

The interval between dental checkups is based on your overall risk for dental problems.

Depending on your risk for dental problems, the recommendation for checkups can vary from 3 monthly to annually.

Some people prefer to have regular checkups as they get comfort knowing their teeth and gum health is being reviewed regularly.

Dr. Andrew will discuss your risk status and can recommend a recall and review strategy.

Should I have xrays taken?

Image Description

Routine dental xrays are extremely important as they:

  • Show any issues between your teeth where dentists cannot see
  • Highlight whether existing fillings are intact
  • Reveal areas where cavities may be forming
  • Show other pathology like infections

Dental x-rays should be taken at least every 2 years.

At Smile Hawthorn, we utilise digital xray technology which reduces your radiation exposure significantly and minimises risks from having xrays taken.
