The motivation and habits of rock climbers were investigated using mixed methodology in order to better understand exercise participation. Forty-one patrons of a south eastern United States climbing gym completed a demographics form and adapted Sports Motivation Scale II (SMS-II), while thirty-six participants completed the Rock Climbing Motivation Survey (RCMS). Those with higher climbing frequency reported significantly higher levels of identified regulation than individuals who climbed less often (p=0.011). According to a thematic analysis, exercise balance and personal growth and challenges were the most commonly reported themes of motivation for rock climbing. The most frequently cited barriers were injury and time. Participants reported external motivators to climb upon initiation of the sport, but appeared to rely more on internal motivators to continue climbing. These findings, which are supported by current literature on physical activity, may be applicable to promoting exercise participation and maintenance.
Abstract

This document summarizes a review of literature on the effects of exercise training on patients with mitochondrial myopathy (MM). The review included 7 studies that examined endurance training, resistance training, or a combination. The main findings were that exercise training significantly improved functional outcomes for MM patients, including aerobic capacity (VO2), muscle strength, and quality of life. Improvements occurred despite increases in mitochondrial mutation loads with training. No adverse effects from exercise training were reported. The review concluded that exercise training is an effective therapy for MM patients that can improve function without apparent safety concerns.
This document summarizes a study that compared the post-exercise nutrition knowledge and practices of masters (≥50 years) and younger (≤30 years) triathletes in Australia. The study found that over 40% of triathletes did not know the recommended post-exercise carbohydrate and protein intake amounts. Both groups consumed inadequate carbohydrate after exercise compared to recommendations, with masters triathletes consuming significantly less carbohydrate and energy than younger triathletes. The results suggest triathletes have poor knowledge of post-exercise nutrition guidelines and masters triathletes may not be optimizing their recovery with current intake practices.
A Comparative Study Establishing the Importance of Physiotherapeutic Principl...IOSR Journals
This research proposal for PhD studies in Physiotherapy aims towards healthy, happy and independent
geriatric life style. In the past few years the interest in body composition, nutritional status and physical
independence in elderly people has markedly increased because of the increasing number of elderly people in
the general population and its implication for geriatric health care 1-2
. Advancing age results in body
composition changes such as decrease in fat free mass 3-4
, and increase in fat mass 4-6
. Also, the amount of
minerals in the fat free mass changes 7
; as does the ratio of total body water in form of intercellular to
intracellular water 8-12. Geriatric ageing is usually characterized by loss of skeletal muscle mass and function,
termed as sarcopenia13. Both physical inactivity and inadequate nutritional intake are the main contributing
factors to sarcopenia and reduction in fat free mass 14-15. These changes have been associated with dramatic
functional decline, physical frailty, falls in elderly and a bad quality of geriatric life 16-18.Until now very few
studies have investigated both the effects of (a) nutritional supplementation and (b) exercises on nutritional
status, body composition and muscular function among geriatric population 19-21.
The document summarizes a study on the factors that affect performance in a 100-meter run. The study examined how leg muscle strength and running step length impact run times. Participants were tested on their muscle strength, step length, and run times. The results showed that leg muscle strength had a greater influence on run times than step length. Those with higher muscle strength had faster average run times than those with lower muscle strength.
Effect of aerobic exercise on walking capacity in subjects with parkinsonism-...Sports Journal
This literature review examines the effect of aerobic exercise on walking capacity in subjects with parkinsonism. Seven studies that utilized aerobic exercises like treadmill training and body weight supported treadmill training with subjects with Parkinson's disease were reviewed. The results across the studies found that aerobic exercise improved walking parameters like speed, stride length, home ambulation, and reduced movement initiation time. The literature review concluded that aerobic exercises can improve walking capacity in patients with parkinsonism.
The study aimed to determine if individuals accurately perceive aerobic exercise intensities as defined by ACSM guidelines. Five subjects completed a graded exercise test while rating perceived intensity. Actual intensity level was determined from oxygen consumption. Results showed a strong agreement between perceived and actual intensity levels, with a Cohen's Kappa of 0.722. This suggests individuals can accurately self-regulate exercise intensity using ratings of perceived exertion.
Long-term Effects of Exercise on High-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol LevelsTomohiro Yamaguchi
Long-term exercise can increase HDL cholesterol levels and reduce cardiovascular disease risk. Several studies showed that resistance training alone increased HDL levels up to 8% in men and 1% in women. Adding aerobic training to resistance training led to greater increases in HDL of up to 15% for men and decreases of up to 8% for women. Both longer duration aerobic sessions (>1 hour) and higher intensity interval training produced greater increases in HDL levels compared to shorter or lower intensity continuous exercise. Overall, higher volume and intensity exercise programs over months to years resulted in the greatest raises in HDL cholesterol.

Statistical analysis found that footballers had significantly lower body fat percentage and fat mass than cricketers but did not differ significantly in lean mass. Footballers also had significantly lower body fat percentage and fat mass than cricketers as well as significantly higher lean mass. Gymnasts had significantly lower body fat percentage and fat mass than cricketers but did not differ significantly in lean mass. The study concluded that footballers generally had a better body
Cardiovascular diseases are considered as one of the threats to human
health, especially, in individuals with overweight. The aim of this study was to
investigate the effect of eight-week aerobic exercises in 10 to 12 years old overweight
girls. In this study, 27 overweight female student whit 10-12 years old were selected
and were randomly divided into two groups; a) training group (n=17) and b) control
group (n=10). Training group participated into the aerobic training for 8 weeks, with
70-85 percent of heart rate reserve maximum, 3 times a week and 60 minutes in each
session. The variables such as BF, BMI, WHR and VO2max, were measured in two
groups before and after the training period. The average of variables such as BF, BMI
and VO2max were significantly different between two groups (P<0.05). But the
average of WHR were not significantly different between two groups. According to
these results, aerobic exercise in 10-12 years old overweight girls, can have beneficial
effects on some cardiovascular risk factors.

—Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a prominent health problem and micro-albunemia is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in these CVDs in developing countries. This case control study was designed to find out burden of micro-albuminuria in non-diabetic non-hypertensive CVD patients and its associating factors. In this study, 50 Non Diabetic Non Hypertensive CVD Patients were submitted to a complete clinical and laboratory evaluation. Patients with known micro-albuminuria, UTI and congestive heart failure were excluded. These cases were compared with matched controls. It was observed that 36% of non-diabetic, non-hypertensive CVD patients had microalbuminuric by Clinitek method. There was a positive association between dyslipidaemia and micro-albuminuria was also observed in this study. The microalbuminuric CVD patients (non-diabetic, non-hypertensive) had significantly elevated levels of serum cholesterol (p<0.05), triglycerides (p<0.05) and LDL (p<0.05) as compared to normoalbuminuric patients. It can be concluded from this study that the micro-albuminuria was present in more than one third of non-diabetic non-hypertensive CVD patients. Older age group, Body Mass Index (BMI) and lipid profile had significant relationship with the presence of micro-albuminuria.
The study aimed to determine the impact of an 8-week nutrition education program on the knowledge, attitudes, practices, and lifestyle habits of 150 orphan girls aged 10-15 in Mumbai, India. Baseline assessments found the girls' diets to be deficient in some nutrients compared to recommendations. After the program, the girls' nutrition knowledge and attitudes increased significantly, though their practices did not fully change due to relying on institution-provided meals. Overall, the study suggests nutrition education can improve orphan girls' health literacy but that organized feeding and hygienic living conditions also need to be addressed for optimal nutrition status.

21. SUMMARY
The study showed that subjects in karate group were coming from low socio
economic status and were mostly underweight (3rd to 10th percentile) or at
risk of underweight (10th to 25th percentile) and were participating in game
so that they will have better health and that will help them for getting the
jobs in security and defense services
Majority of the girl subjects were from Mahesh Navale dance and karate
association which offers free of cost training for needy girls as learning self
defense is very important for girls now a days while the non-karate group
studying in Amulakh Amichand school belong to the upper middle and high
class society and were found to be overweight (90th to 97th percentile)
It was observed that nutrient intakes of both the karate and non-karate
groups were deficient but 13-15years group were more deficient than 16-
17years among them girls were found to be more vulnerable.
Only the fat intake s were found to be higher when compared with RDA ,
could be due to daily habit of eating junk and fast food. Even though both
the groups had a habit of eating out the type of junk and fast food eaten
differed. Karate students had the cheapest choice of foods due to their poor
financial condition while non-karate students were eating pizza, pasta,
noodles.
22. Karate students were more vulnerable due to their inadequate
intakes and poor family background in spite of vigorous physical
activity for future benefits while on the other side non-karate
students were also not able to meet their daily nutrient requirements
by diet because of their eating habits, type and choice of food and
absence of physical activity
23. CONCLUSION
Karate students had very poor body composition because of
their financial status and girls seem to be more affected than
boys while in non-karate group both were having junk and fast
food and even though deficient in nutrients they were
overweight because of their food choices
Due to daily vigorous physical activity karate group were
prone to injuries and falling sick often and had sleep
disturbances
There was a significant correlation seen between weight and
BMI of both the groups. Also significance was found between
physical activity and BMI
Both the groups were deficient in macronutrient and
micronutrient intake but karate group was more deficient and
especially girls were mainly lacking for all the nutrients
