What Are My Chances - Profile Evaluation Tool! WAMC

Interesting tool. Not sure how accurate the tool is for others and didn't look through the 4 pages of replies, but this wasn't too accurate for me.

I think one factor it needs to take into account is what round the applicant is applying in. Round 1 is by far the easiest round. When adcom says Round 1 and Round 2 are the same, that is far from true. Even though the volume of acceptances compared to volume of applicants in both rounds are similar or the same, people don't realize that folks on the waitlist in Round 1 are carried over to Round 2 for assessment, so technically the denominator in the equation is actually higher in Round 2. Also, since adcom usually doesn't focus on the makeup of the class as much in Round 1, they go for the stories and the holistic view of an applicant more. But once they fill 40%-45% of a class in Round 1, they need to put the entire student profile under a microscope more in Round 2 and obviously in Round 3.

The schools I was accepted or waitlisted at were listed as Below Average, so I'm thinking there may be too much weight on grades rather than assessing combinations of things. For example, folks with strong WE and essays, but average GMAT and below average GPA tend to have decent chances (particularly in Round 1) vs. folks with strong GMAT/GPA, average WE, and below avg essays (which no one either will objectively admit or can tell without input from admissions or admissions consultants), depending on the tier school applied to. There are plenty of stats out there that show that the average scores of people denied from top schools are actually fairly close to the average stats of those accepted.

I am of 39 now, want to pursue executive MBA course in ISB or in HBS. what do you think my chances are if I get 760+ score?

Really decent tool to get you started.

A bit surprised (and glad) to see Berkeley and MIT being shown better probability to get in vs. schools that I've found out in real life are easier to get into such as W, LBS and INSEAD. I work in a consulting firm (MBB) and have had 3/4 peers successfully get into INSEAD and LBS and 2/4 get into W over past 3 years while the admit/applicant ratio for Sloan and Haas has been close to each other and consistently lower at 2/5 or even 1/3. [2/3rd of my (ex) colleagues also applied to Sloan and Haas and my sample size is > 60]

I recently graduated with MS in quantitative & computational finance (GPA - 3.5 on a scale of 4.0) from Georgia Institute of Technology (Ranked among top 13 programs so kind of tier-1 college, if that helps in feedback) and my undergrad is in Mechanical Engineering (GPA - 8.27 on a scale of 10.0, equivalent to 3.83 on a scale of 4.0) from NIT Patna (among top 100 engineering colleges in India, somewhere between tier-1 & tier-2). I have an experience of about 8 years in the same country the break-up of which is as follows in the reverse chronological order :
Consulting internship ( Big4) - 2 months
Education technology - (Product Management with the world's most valued start-up in its space) - 8 months
Financial Services (Equity Research with a mid-size brokerage firm)- 6 years
Petroleum( with a petroleum giant) - 1 year
What chances do I have for the following colleges realistically: INSEAD France, Harvard, Stanford, MIT Sloan, Chicago Booth, Columbia, LBS, Yale, HEC Paris, Wharton, Kellogg, Ross Michigan
GRE Score - 322 ( QA - 168, VA - 154, Writing - 3)
TOEFL - 101
I would appreciate your inputs and please feel free to share anything one would like to.

Did you use the tool? Isn’t this question kind of the opposite of the purpose of the tool?

I guess you didn't notice that I have GRE score and your platform supports only GMAT scores as I can see. Hence, having to ask this way.

Convert your gre score to gmat and then post in the tool.

I am curious to know about the algorithm.

I saw you mentioned that the 2017-2019 data has been used. So a model is trained based on this data?

Is the algorithm pre-defined rule-based or a trained model is predicting the chances?

Basically, is it a Machine Learning algorithm or if/else statements (or switch case) are used to generate the result?

Hey can anyone please guide me with the following parameters in profile evaluation:
1) What are the chances when a candidate holds professional certification along such as CFA, CPA, FRM or any other great IT tool. This parameter need to be seen with all the above optional parameter
2) what about the guys who have done diploma or sort of certificate in post graduate course

This is such a great tool and really appreciate that this was put together Hoping someone could shed some light on a few questions:

1. Representation - I am from the Philippines, which is in SE Asia. However, I think adcoms receive significantly less Filipino applicants than Singaporean or maybe even Vietnamese applicants. The Philippines is also a developing country. I’m wondering if this makes any difference or if it’s more of the region than the country being considered, in that case I am of an over-represented group?

2. Undergrad Prestige in my Country: I graduated from the top university in the country (consistently ranked #1 in the Philippines by THE/QS) however I wouldn’t consider it a feeder to the big schools since most Filipinos opt to gain their degrees locally, where it is significantly cheaper.

3. Your Company: definitely a household brand locally as it is the leading brand in its industry but it is a local brand so it will not ring a bell to people outside of the country. Is it still safe to select household brand?

Hi and thank you for your questions. I think you are correct in the sense that Philippines is not really over represented but at the same time I don’t think business schools suck out students from Philippines either so you’re probably more along average, which is good

In terms of your undergraduate reputation, it depends somewhat on the schools you’re applying to. If the schools you are targeting, haven’t had anyone applied from Your undergraduate institution, then it would also be rated as average and basically have no impact on your application. At the same time, I would suggest to counter it with an optional essay that perhaps could explain both your undergraduate and your professional experience from the Philippines perspective.

You can likely weave your work experience and the fact that you’re working for a premier company and making top salary into your essays but you may have to do a separate optional essay to give an idea about your undergrad.

So to answer your question, I would say you are somewhere between middle and top in those choices. It’s somewhat depends on how you present it in your essays. One challenge many international applicants face is explaining the weight and importance of both their undergrad and work experience and local involvement. This is some thing you will face in applications and also in internship recruiting and also in job recruiting. You will have to explain your work experience where as someone who works for Coca-Cola or American Express does not need to do that.... again there are ways to put small notes on the resume (though I am not a resume expert) to indicate (ranked #1 university in Philippines with 23 applicants per seat).

Also, keep in mind that at least in the United States, international work experience is often discounted and not considered as valuable or as meaningful if recruiters don’t see recognizable brand names.

Thanks for answering my questions

The schools I am interested in have some alumni who also earned their undergraduate degrees in the same university as I did. These alumni are also fairly big names here - current politicians, big business executives. But again, the number is comparably low versus other countries so I would not consider it a feeder school. I suppose I can count my educational background as average.

I have also been working on highlighting my background in my resume and essays in order to provide some context of their prestige here in the Philippines. It did not cross my mind to utilize the optional essay to do this and I think that is a great idea. Thanks so much for the input! I really appreciate the help.

Quick question about "Writing Skills". Can our AWA scores be considered indicative of our writing skills? My AWA was 6.0 but otherwise I haven't had the need to write essays and I found significant difference in results when I played around with the "Writing Skills" part.
