Ashley Hoffman is one of 16 players who has been selected to play for the U.S. women’s national field hockey team in the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru.

Hoffman, a Twin Valley and University of North Carolina graduate, was named to the team Tuesday by coach Janeke Schopman.

Hoffman was winner of the 2018 Honda Sport Award for field hockey, given to the NCAA Player of the Year. She had her No. 13 retired at North Carolina in February.

Team USA, the two-time defending champion, will open the Pan American Games Monday, July 29, against Mexico, followed by pool games against Chile on July 31 and Peru on Aug. 2. The four teams in the other pool are Argentina, Canada, Uruguay and Cuba.

The champion earns a berth in the 2020 Olympics in Toyko.

Kutztown University announced Tuesday that it has hired former Louisiana-Monroe assistant coach Eric Folmar as its new head baseball coach.

Folmar, a native of Chambersburg, was the associate coach at Louisiana-Monroe from 2015-17.

Previously, he was an assistant coach at Army in 2014 and for eight seasons at Penn State. He also was on the staff at Old Dominion, his alma mater, from 2002-05.

From 1996-99, Folmar was an infielder and catcher at Old Dominion and started 168 consecutive games. He helped lead the Monarchs to three Colonial Athletic Association title games, one championship and one NCAA Tournament appearance.

“I’m excited to join Kutztown University and a baseball program with a rich tradition of success,” Folmar said in a statement released by the university. “The foundation is here to compete at the conference, regional and national levels. I’m eager to get on the field and get to work.”

He replaces Chris Blum, the winningest baseball coach in Kutztown history, who was fired in May near the end of his 17th season. Blum posted a 502-337 record and ranks fifth in coaching wins in the history of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
