As this season mercifully winds down, I thought it would be fun to start a discussion about possible starting lineups next season, including the possibility of players that are not on the Spurs now. For example, if someone thinks the Spurs will draft a point guard, they can add that draftee's name to the lineup. The sky's the limit here, but one thing I would say is that ideas with some connection to actual reality tend to be a lot more interesting. So maybe leave out Lebron, Giannis, Curry....

The Spurs certainly want to do a LOT better next season. This year really was about getting to know Wemby and the guys on the team from before, and not rushing into any ill-advised moves in order to win now. It made sense, and building smartly and patiently still does make sense. But.....holy moly is Wemby going to be great, and sooner than we all think. Having a player like that (if there even is a precedent) means this rebuild is going to accelerate. There's no stopping that. No running things back for a few years and building solely out of the draft. To think otherwise is simply naive.

So, lets have some fun. Make up trades, consider free agents, think about who you like in the draft, who you like currently on the roster, and lets hear some ideas!

One last thing, the current starting lineup has doing better as the season grinds down, and it's clear that the Spurs have big needs for the bench. I believe the Spurs will get some veteran help for the bench as well as improve the starting five. They kind of go together. So feel free to include bench ideas, but I'm especially interested in what pounders think about the starting five next October.
