Week four
- 1. Peek at the Week: o In Reading, we were introduced to the letter /b/. o We continue to practice identifying action words (verbs) as well as blending short vowel sounds. o The new high frequency words was “has”. o Students also practiced summarizinga story using a picture and words. o In math, we worked on identifying a quarter and breaking apart into equal parts. This is an introduction to fractions. o During Science, we discussed weather changes during the seasons. o We are working very hard on our writing. Students worked on an opinion writing with two supporting details. o We discussed the four food groups and how to make healthy meals. Coming Up: o Next week in Reading, we will Review for our Unit 5 Test. o Our new high frequency words for next week: come, get. o In math, students will be creating 3D structures using toothpicks and marshmallows. We will also work with the quarter. o Next week we will beginning working on writing an informative piece. o In Science, students will identify elements of a night sky. o During Social Studies we will continue to discuss making a healthy meal. March 31, 2017 Reminders o The weather is hopefully warming up and we will go outside often. Please have your child wear safe sneaker type shoes for playground running! o Please remember to return your Library book each week by Tuesday. A Note from the Office: Information for the PC Summer Math and Reading Program will be sent home soon. This is an opportunity for students to take advantage of fun activities to continue growth in math and reading, and free transportation is provided. Many students are enjoying the additional options at lunch. You may want to speak with your child if they do purchase additional items as we are seeing many students throw them away without even opening them. Some are also only eating the dessert and not the main course.
