I have learned over the years that a great trait to have as a leader is humility. As a leader of employees, never assume you are smarter than everyone. The other item to remember, is that your employees have a better idea of what really goes on in the office or the production floor. Be willing to admit when you are wrong, but also be strong enough to know when you are right. This is a presentation I put together for my peers during my tenure with Georgia Pacific. The ideas were taken from the science of success, the dictionary and conversations with my employees and personal experiences.

You consider thousands of musings every day. You converse with yourself more than any
other individual. You are your most confident counselor and friend. A significant number of
the discussions that you have with yourself you could never impart to any other individual
on the grounds that to do as such would uncover the "genuine" you. The you that is loaded
up with self uncertainty, stresses, pity, culpability, damages and disillusionments.
Negative thoughts can influence weight gain by affecting emotional state and convictions. Many negative thoughts come from past remarks that have been internalized, rather than reflecting reality. Eliminating negative self-talk and focusing on positive qualities can improve mood, confidence, and life outcomes. Loving oneself by appreciating accomplishments and qualities, rather than dwelling on perceived flaws, allows the natural joy and potential of one's inner child to emerge once more in daily experiences. This supports weight loss as old negative self-convictions dissolve.

The document was presented by Quelynn Inc., a coaching firm that aims to help people reach their potential through building confidence and finding purpose.
Self-knowledge and understanding one's needs and strengths is important for career success and satisfaction. A manager should critically examine whether their current job aligns with their natural abilities and fulfills their changing needs over time. Maslow's hierarchy of needs identifies five basic needs that people aim to satisfy through their work, including physiological, safety, social, esteem and self-fulfillment needs. Analyzing which needs one's job meets can provide insight into potential areas for improvement or change.

Tracking your competencies through tools provided by your experience can support your personal development as a change agent.
The document lists 21 common symptoms of low self-esteem, including indecisive decision making, perfectionism, shame, inability to handle criticism, negative self-talk, constant worrying, lack of care about physical appearance, making excuses, dependence on others acceptance, pessimism, fear of change, and putting others down. It encourages readers to work on improving self-esteem by addressing negative thinking patterns and behaviors.
Self-esteem refers to how one views and thinks about themselves. It involves feelings of self-respect, self-worth, and self-value. High self-esteem involves having a good opinion of oneself, while low self-esteem involves having a poor opinion. One's self-esteem is developed throughout their life based on experiences, particularly childhood experiences, and is influenced by factors like praise, success, relationships, and treatment by others. Having healthy self-esteem is important as it promotes confidence, happiness, and positive relationships.
This document discusses the concept of self-concept. It provides a brief history, noting that William James in 1890 distinguished between the subjective sense of self ("I") and objective sense ("me"). Self-concept is then defined as the totality of an individual's thoughts and feelings about themselves. The cognitive, affective, and behavioral components of self-concept are introduced. Eastern and Western cultural perspectives on the self are contrasted. The document also discusses how the looking-glass self and cognitive dissonance theory relate to threats to self-concept.
The document discusses self-esteem, what it is, how it is formed from our experiences, and the effects of high and low self-esteem. People with high self-esteem enjoy meeting new people, are not worried about judgment, and express themselves freely. They also attract opportunities. In contrast, people with low self-esteem do not believe in themselves, see themselves as failures, and are afraid to show creativity. The document provides 11 steps to improve self-esteem such as forgiving mistakes, focusing on strengths, and developing relationships.
There are three components that make up self-concept: self-image, self-esteem, and ideal self. Self-image is influenced by parental influences, friends, and media, and can be investigated using tests like the Twenty Statements Test. Self-esteem involves self-evaluation and can be either positive or negative. An ideal self may not match a person's actual experiences, creating incongruence. Understanding all three components provides insight into a person.
Self-esteem refers to how you feel about yourself and is influenced by puberty, media, family, and friends. Low self-esteem causes negative feelings and behaviors while high self-esteem promotes confidence and success. To build self-esteem, celebrate accomplishments, accept mistakes, spend time with supportive people, and find hobbies you enjoy. Seeking help from counselors can also boost self-esteem for those struggling with low self-worth.
Selfies: Positively or negatively impacting self-esteem?Raymond Chung
The document discusses how selfies can impact self-esteem both positively and negatively. It explores how selfies have become a part of modern culture for both attention-seeking and self-expression purposes, especially for teens. While some research indicates selfies can boost self-esteem through likes and comments, other studies have shown an overreliance on social media validation through frequent posting of curated selfies can damage relationships and lead to lower self-esteem. Moderation is key, as insecure individuals who obsess over taking the perfect selfie risk developing selfie addiction.
This document discusses self-concept and self-esteem. It defines self-concept as an individual's perception of themselves, which is shaped by internal and external factors from childhood onward. Self-esteem refers to the value one places on their self-concept and is determined by comparing one's self-concept to their ideals. The document outlines several components of self-concept, including identity, body image, self-esteem, and role performance. It notes that self-concept and self-esteem can impact behaviors and relationships.

KUTAISI UNIVERSITY (GEORGIA) AND ISTANBUL GELISIM UNIVERSITY (TURKEY)
FROM JUNE 10TH TO JUNE 14TH, 2024
APM event held on 9 July in Bristol.
Speaker: Roy Millard
The SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome back to Bristol Roy Millard, of APM’s Assurance Interest Group on 9 July 2024, to talk about project reviews and hopefully answer all your questions.
Roy outlined his extensive career and his experience in setting up the APM’s Assurance Specific Interest Group, as they were known then.
Using Mentimeter, he asked a number of questions of the audience about their experience of project reviews and what they wanted to know.
Roy discussed what a project review was and examined a number of definitions, including APM’s Bok: “Project reviews take place throughout the project life cycle to check the likely or actual achievement of the objectives specified in the project management plan”
Why do we do project reviews? Different stakeholders will have different views about this, but usually it is about providing confidence that the project will deliver the expected outputs and benefits, that it is under control.
There are many types of project reviews, including peer reviews, internal audit, National Audit Office, IPA, etc.
Roy discussed the principles behind the Three Lines of Defence Model:, First line looks at management controls, policies, procedures, Second line at compliance, such as Gate reviews, QA, to check that controls are being followed, and third Line is independent external reviews for the organisations Board, such as Internal Audit or NAO audit.
Factors which affect project reviews include the scope, level of independence, customer of the review, team composition and time.
Project Audits are a special type of project review. They are generally more independent, formal with clear processes and audit trails, with a greater emphasis on compliance. Project reviews are generally more flexible and informal, but should be evidence based and have some level of independence.
Roy looked at 2 examples of where reviews went wrong, London Underground Sub-Surface Upgrade signalling contract, and London’s Garden Bridge. The former had poor 3 lines of defence, no internal audit and weak procurement skills, the latter was a Boris Johnson vanity project with no proper governance due to Johnson’s pressure and interference.
Roy discussed the principles of assurance reviews from APM’s Guide to Integrated Assurance (Free to Members), which include: independence, accountability, risk based, and impact, etc
Human factors are important in project reviews. The skills and knowledge of the review team, building trust with the project team to avoid defensiveness, body language, and team dynamics, which can only be assessed face to face, active listening, flexibility and objectively.
