- 4. How will a PT determine your condition? They will have you answer questions to give them information about your pain and symptoms (NDI – Neck Disability Index, VAS- Visual analog scale and NRS- numeric rating scale) They will also possibly use a technique termed manual therapy to assess your condition A PT will also assess your strength, flexibility and range of movement

Family involvement and Social Support- Prognosis Current research has stated that: Family members should be included in the treatment, and therapeutic relationships should be developed with each member of the family. Effective communication and interaction within the family should be promoted. Families should discuss perceived changes in the family and any associated fears.
- 10. Support and Chronic pain continued… Feelings of distance and isolation should be addressed. Families should be encouraged to engage in activities together to facilitate bonding. Sexual intimacy concerns should be addressed and clients should be encouraged to seek support from peers.

Prognostic factors Some of the following factors may increase your risk for developing or be an indication of persistent neck pain: Age > 40, history of back and neck pain, cycling and taking time off of work due to neck pain, poor quality of life and recurrent headaches.
