It is a bittersweet day in the history of Borussia Dortmund. Club legend Marco Reus, arguably the most recognizable Borussia Dortmund player from the last decade if not longer, has announced that this will be his final season with the club that has been his home since 2012.

Rumors have been swirling for quite some time that this would be Reus’s final year in black-and-yellow. While he’s still an effective player on the pitch, his role has diminished greatly this season with Edin Terzic preferring Marcel Sabitzer and Julian Brandt. Reus, who reportedly still wants to be an important part of a team rather than a bench player, has been tied with exits to both clubs within the Bundesliga and outside of it. According to more recent reports, a move to the MLS seems more likely, because Reus will want to protect his legacy with Borussia Dortmund.

While it’s sad to see him go, the season isn’t over just yet. There’s still a chance that Reus could finish his Borussia Dortmund career by lifting the Champions League trophy at Wembley Stadium.
