MotM Poll: A Fond Farewell to a Club Legend

Marco Reus played his final home game for BVB in style with a 4-0 win over the relegated Darmstadt.

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

Borussia Dortmund hosted the already relegated Darmstadt in their final Bundesliga match of the season. This was always going to be an emotional game as the club prepared to send off the legendary Marco Reus. With a dominant performance from both the club and player, BVB thrashed the visitors 4-0 to secure some confidence ahead of the the UEFA Champions League Final in Wembley two weeks from today.

Today’s man of the match is obviously Marco Reus, but Paul likes keeping track of all these statistics, so I’ll give you a few options. (But there’s really only one choice)

So here are our picks for Man of the match:

Marco Reus

Our captain made us proud today, wearing the armband again. It looked good on him alongside Puma’s latest home kit. We were all hoping to see a Marco Reus goal today and we were not disappointed as Reus scored a brilliant free kick and assisted Ian Maatsen’s opening goal. Watching Marco climb the Yellow Wall after the match brought tears to my eyes. Now we just need to see him with the UCL trophy in hand.

Ian Maatsen

Maatsen opened the scoring with a brilliant strike with a speed of 114 kilometers per hour. In addition, his passing and dribbling were both superb. BVB will certainly be looking to hold onto the Chelsea loanee after such a strong half-season. But while Maatsen did have a great game, Marco deserves your vote.

Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho has also enjoyed a successful half-season in Dortmund. The Manchester United loanee likely won't desire a return to his dumpster fire of a parent club, and why would he when he’s in the Starting XI of a team playing in the Champions League Final? Jadon showed off his fancy footwork today, assisting Julian Brandt’s goal with a very cheeky pass. Regardless, you should vote for Reus.

Marius Wolf

A fan of Borussia Dortmund as a child, Marius Wolf has been living his dream the last few years at Borussia Dortmund. I have a healthy respect for what this club means to him, and I’ll be sad to see Wolf go. Th real reason he’s getting a shout for man of the match is so that I can write, one final time: ‘Unleash the Wolf.’ But seriously, vote for Marco.
