The D-backs stand on the edge of unwanted history, potentially.

Roster moves

The Arizona Diamondbacks made the following roster moves. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.

  • Reinstated from the 15-day injured list: RHP Ryne Nelson (right elbow contusion)
  • Optioned to Triple-A Reno following last night’s game: LHP Brandon Hughes

It’s been a rough few days for the D-backs. Over the last three games, they have been outscored by a margin of 26-2. It’s the worst run differential for that span since the All-Star break in 2021, when they went -28. However, three-quarters of that came in a single contest, the infamous 22-1 loss to the Dodgers in LA. To find a consecutive trio of contests where Arizona had lost by 6 or more, you need to go all the way back to the middle of 2016, when they were beaten 14-3 in LA, then came home and lost 14-1 and 10-4 to Washington. They’ve never been blown out by more than five runs, for four games in a row. That could happen today.

If it does, this would also become the worst three-game series in franchise history by run differential. The current record holder is the Nationals series referenced above. The D-backs lost the finale by "only" an 8-3 margin, making the total for the set -24. So far, the Diamondbacks are -18 going into today's game, so all to play for there, really. The way the team has played, I'd certainly not bet against it. I blame the bees, who clearly cursed the team in revenge for being evicted from their home on the netting behind home-plate.
