The Nightly: May 16th, 2024

Hello Nightly!!!

Tonight, we take a look at Backlash 2020.

Golden Role Models vs. Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss vs. IIconics:

Alright opener, I still say IIconics should have won here.

Sheamus vs. Jeff Hardy:

Decent match, though Sheamus winning was a strange decision considering the storyline.

Asuka vs. Nia Jax for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship:

Awful match, the match ending in a double countout made no sense, and the division here was already suffering without Becky Lynch. Asuka was a good choice to replace Becky as the top face in the division, but her and Nia as the first feud was never going to work.

Braun Strowman vs. Miz and John Morrison for the WWE Universal Championship:

Alright match for what it was, I guess.

Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship:

The only good match on the show.

Edge vs. Randy Orton:

This was promoted as the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever, which did these guys no favors, they don’t deserve that kind of pressure. WWE did a solid job with the presentation of this match, but this match was far too long and far too self indulgent.

Overall, this was an awful show. Like Backlash 2017 levels of awful. There was a Street Profits/Viking Raiders segment that went on for far too long and was just awful comedy. This was just terrible, and really demonstrated just how bad the product was back in 2020.

On to the Nightly.
