During the Peace Accord implementation between 1997 and 2004, USAID pioneered girls’ education in the Western Highland region of Guatemala where the gender gap in school attendance and primary school completion was wide. The result of USAID work with the Ministry of Education has been a significant increase in enrollment and graduation of girls in all of Guatemala over the last 15 years.
