Base@wikimania2018wikimedia

Hi. Please give me an administrator and translate admin flags on the wiki for mostly i18n/l10n related work as well as general admin routine. The wiki was notified a week ago in linked from sidebar Community portal but no response followed (apparently the team is yet to get there). It would be the forth Wikimania wiki I am an admin and translate admin of: I was an admin and tA of wm2016, wm2015, and wm2014 before the wikis were closed. I am also an admin here, and in several other wikis. Base (talk) 19:15, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Being oldest and yet active member on Gujarati Wikipedia, the community have been voting for me for permanent adminship since past two terms but how ever I was granted temporary adminship in all my terms. This time also, community wants to elect me as a permanent administrator. Have been temporary admin since past 4 terms now.

Voting is going on at Gu.wikipedia.org since Tuesday, 17th October 2017 and will concluded on Monday, 23rd October 2017.

Thanks & Regards, Aniket

Требую присвоения флага администратора Русского Викиучебника по результатам обсуждения и голосования в сообществе. Фред-Продавец звёзд (talk) 16:58, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Я не вижу консенсуса для присвоения флага администратора. Ruslik (talk) 18:49, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
The first supporter only has one edit in the project - which is this support. Apparently, canvassing is going on.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:13, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Wow, no! This was a fake-voting, all users on that page have no edits in ru-wikibooks. Iniquity (talk) 19:17, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Well, Леонид Макаров has some sizable contribution, all other supporters are indeed driveby accounts. A clear case of disruption.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:45, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Not done Ruslik (talk) 20:06, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Benoit Rochon@atj.wikipedia.org

Benoit Rochon (talk) 15:09, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Only five votes, which is not sufficient for promotion - the project is probably too small to have bureaucrats. Ruslik (talk) 17:23, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
Stewards, you may wish to consider an exception in this case, especially if Benoit agrees not to promote anyone else to bureaucrat. He is president of Wikimedia Canada, and is working hard to help promote and create wikis in indigenous Canadian (North American) languages. If this would be useful to him in these efforts, I would trust him to use the 'crat tools correctly. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:21, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for your responses Ruslik and StevenJ81. In a near future, Wikimedia Canada will help indigenous communities to get organised, and create their own Wikipedia. It would be less time consumming if I can help to manage the Canadian local wikis, especially that they don't speak English to do Stewards requests. @Ruslik: how many supporters would be a decent vote? Best regards, Benoit Rochon (talk) 16:44, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Generally we like to see permanent admins, and at least 10 supporting votes from active community members. – Ajraddatz (talk) 20:57, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Ok, thank you guys. I will launch the discussion on the local wiki. Best. Benoit Rochon (talk) 17:24, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
@Ajraddatz, you say 10 supports, but can it be ~5 instead? Because local community is still small for the moment. Best regards, Benoit Rochon (talk) 14:14, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
If the community is small, it does not need bureaucrats. Ruslik (talk) 20:37, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Just a note that I (perhaps erroneously) advised TNT that they could request the CU/OS flags since they had signed the agreement. However, after checking the explicit wording of the CU policy, it says that the request should be made by an arbitrator. However, there is past precedent for granting the rights requested by the user after the ArbCom announcement. But while this request can probably be granted, I shall refrain from such controversial suggestions in the future :PAjraddatz (talk) 17:53, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Inactive sysops on Meta

Sadness. --MF-W 13:41, 1 October 2017 (UTC)

Done sadly. @Trijnstel: Would you please remove Barras from the cu mailing list? He does not have checkuser access elsewhere. His rights should also be removed on checkuserwiki. Thanks, RadiX 14:53, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, I should have been more clear. Afaics, Barras does not yet fulfill the inactivity criteria according to the CU and OS policies, so he should have kept those rights. --MF-W 16:26, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
If CU/OS are required to be administrators though, the rights should be removed at the same time. Meta:Oversighters says they must be administrators, though I don't see a similar page for CU. --Rschen7754 16:31, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
They shouldn't. Meta:Oversighters isn't a policy yet. Matiia (talk) 16:35, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
Only the appointment process section is not approved as a policy yet. AFAIK adminiship is a prerequisite for granting high level accesses (CU/OS) in almost any Wikimedia project so far. RadiX 16:47, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
Playing devil's advocate here, but that's not true in every project (nlwiki for example). Anyway, since this isn't the first time this has come up, perhaps we should clarify the policy. --Rschen7754 16:52, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
Yep, that's why I said "almost". Anyway Meta:Oversighters#Introduction states that oversighters are "highly trusted administrators". RadiX 16:55, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
An additional information (it can be of some help): the page Meta:Administrators/Removal/October 2017 further states that sysops rights have been removed alongside other advanced permissions (since 2009). RadiX 17:38, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
See (October 2013) RadiX 17:46, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
I don't want to remove Barras from the CU mailing list yet and I'm inclined to add back the CU rights. But @Barras: what do you want? Trijnsteltalk 22:00, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
(For the record: the reason is that I don't know of any policy that Meta CUs have to be admins, although I know it's not common. Trijnsteltalk 22:01, 1 October 2017 (UTC))
I've just followed what is prescribed at the top of this page ("Adminship and other advanced permissions removed without notice") and had been done before. In any case I agree about asking @Barras: if he wants the CU/OS flags back or not. Meanwhile I suggest we mark this request as on hold and wait until he responds (maybe for one week). If he wants us to add CU/OS to his account again, then it should be OK. No objections on my part, at least. RadiX 23:06, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
What's this fuss all about? RadiX's removals are in line with the current inactivity policy. If you all watch the very first round of removals that happened under the new system back in Meta:Administrators/Removal/April 2009 you'll see that administrator and all advanced permissions ("other rights") were removed without further notice, and has been since always like that. As much as I dislike Barras loosing the flags, policy is equal for all of us. If you feel the policy should be amended for future runs please raise the discussion in the appropriate public forums. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 12:40, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
Considering that Barras himself seems to interpret the policy the same way, I don't think he will be asking for the rights back. --Rschen7754 07:07, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
At second thought I removed him from the list. I guess you were right in removing the rights. Trijnsteltalk 23:08, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

On October 12th, there will be a Wikidata hackathon at XLDB2017. More than 45 participants are expected. I made a request on Wikidata to temporarily add Wikidata contributors (Andrawaag, Envlh, Jsamwrites, Tpt) who will lead the hackathon to the Account creators group, but it seems that this group doesn't exist on Wikidata. Is there a solution (maybe to be added to this group in another project, like meta)? Thanks, Envlh (talk) 09:58, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi @Envlh: there is a local account creators group on Wikidata, but only stewards can add users to it. I am active on Wikidata, so I won't fill this request, but another steward can do so. Thanks for the link. Done Granted for 1 year to expire on 2018-10-10. @ZUFAr: I've granted you importer rights on ba.wiki, and importer rights for a year on ba.wikibooks. If you no longer need the rights on bawiki, please let us know. Be careful using these permissions, as improper XML importing can cause damage to page histories. – Ajraddatz (talk) 23:52, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
