Steward requests/Bot status/2006-05

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

OrgulloBot

I specifically request that this bot not be run until permission is sought to run this bought. It appears it may currently be in use from Commons on en.Wikinews, which at least has not granted permission for bot status - nor has bot status been requested. - Amgine / talk meta 03:50, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

In response to your complaint I've asked the bot operator to stop using the bot until permission has been obtained and then to follow policy for each wiki. [1]. Note that the complaint is apparently based on a commons group overriding wikinews image policy abut SVG image use - wikinews apparently favors PNG versions, the commons group apparently prefers SVG form and is trying to get what it wants everywhere, forgetting that commons is an image repository, not an image policy site for all project and all users of an image who aren't even hosted on computers owned by the Foundation. This bot operator has been helpful in sorting out what was really happening so I suggest that no action is taken. At present it appears that this was a case of misidentification. Jamesday 06:49, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi, fellars. It would be great if you could provide some proof. I request this seeing that Orgullobot does not have an account on wikinews...at all [2]. Orgullobot (the username I *always* use, unless I have problems with logging in, in which case I use "Orgullowikibot") has been replacing images that are marked as redundant on Commons, generally .png national flags for .svg equivalents, in which case the replaced images are not erased, which would be impossible without the consent of a Commons administrator, which Orgullobot is not, nor is Orgullomoore (me). I have been very well received in Commons and they welcomed me with open arms, perhaps because the bot can do what a human can do in months in a few hours. It does not work on wikinews, nor wikispecies...mostly because I don't want to write a library for those sites. It doesn't have bot status on all the wikis it works for two main reasons:
  1. It works on over a 100 wikis
  2. It works on these wikis in random order. That is, if it must make 50 substitutions (en:12 de:8 fr:15 pt: 14, es:1, for example), it may make 3 edits on en: first, go to es:, pass by fr: and make 3 and back to en:, then to de:, etc etc. This reduces RC flooding.
In any case, the bot saves alot of time and I think many people would be dissapointed if it was banished based on what "it appears it may currently be doing", which is not what it's been doing (go figure). That said, may any wiki feel free to block the bot if they see it as bothersome (though they may end up with a bunch of empty links to commons, or if nothing else, will complicate the process for commons), which may be hard for en.wikinews since Orgullobot has never touched wires there. In the future, of course, I would like people who request my bot being removed do a little bit more research, or even venture as far as to ask me, but I never get what I like, so...Thank you for your time.--Orgullomoore 04:50, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for being so helpful in sorting out what was happening - just the sort of response I hope to see from bot operators! Jamesday 04:12, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

w:pl:Wikipedysta:DodekBot

General purpose bot run by Dodek. --WarX 19:29, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Was proposed only yesterday, April 16 - please wait a week or so to check on the community approval. On the other hand, I'm caring for Basak Bot on the same page (w:pl:Dyskusja_Wikipedii:Boty#Ugur_Basak_Bot) which is waiting since March 21 (see request on my talk page (bots_for_pl.wiki). villy 21:27, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Actually Jon Harald Søby already took care of Basak Bot. villy 21:30, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Yup, but it was allready consulted on our IRC channel :) and not many people look on this page - the best result for collecting opinions about bot was ca. 5. As I mentioned - we like bots and we have contact with our native-bot operators on IRC (every), so there is no problem (I hope).--WarX 21:59, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

This proposal is being disputed. The user is a newbie with 300 edits, it might be too early to run a bot. tsca @ 14:31, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

w:fy:User:Botter

I ask permission to let the bot-software for w:fy:User:Botter ignore robots.txt for the login-request (for now for the Frisian Wikipedy)::

The login-request is the one request that is generated by the wiki rather than the bot, and it accesses /w, which robots.txt disallows for generic bots. If possible, I would prefer to program it to request a /wiki/Special address instead, if I would get confirmation that this would be handled correctly by the wiki.
(Requesting permission to use Botter will be done locally, but not until it runs clean.) Thank you! Aliter 17:20, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

As This wikipedia has local bureaucrats, this request was left to them. --Ascánder 16:11, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

It's still a couple of years till February 29th. Can this bot be marked now? Or do we have to wait for 2008? Jon Harald Søby 18:48, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
This bot was authorized to do a limited number of changes but has been inactive for more than a month. If he wants bot status he should ask for locally. --Ascánder 01:09, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

en:User:Ugur Basak Bot

I request flag bot for bots listed below:

I've noticed below on relevant pages 21-22 March. Some of them responds "Ok", some open "votes" and some don't respon. Currently i don't run bot on any of them. Bot is interwiki bot, currently flagged on en:, tr: and az: . Mostly working on tr:wiki with multilogin function, and also sometimes work on other tt:, cv:, uz:, tk:, kk:, ky:, ba:, ug: without bot flag and on az with bot flag.

Thank you. --Ugur Basak 10:04, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
