ニューヨーク大聖堂(Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine、公式にはCathedral Church of Saint John: The Great Divine in the City and Diocese of New York)は、アメリカ合衆国ニューヨーク市マンハッタン区にあるキリスト教米国聖公会エピスコパル司教ニューヨーク州管区の聖堂である。
概要
ニューヨーク大聖堂の所在地は、マンハッタンのモーニングサイド・ハイツ地区、西110丁目と113丁目の間のアムステルダム・アベニューである。
この聖堂は1888年に設計され、1892年に建設が始まった。幾度となく大きな設計変更が行われ、二度の世界大戦による建設の中断もあり、現在も建築中である。完成すると世界最大のゴシック大聖堂となる(現在はセビリア大聖堂が世界最大のゴシック大聖堂)。また、この大聖堂は、リバプール大聖堂 (en) と聖公会の聖堂および教会の中で最大の座を争っている[1]。この聖堂はまた、世界で4番目に大きいキリスト教教会でもある[2]。建物の内部の敷地面積は121,000 sq ft (11,200 m2)であり、長さは601 ft (183.2 meters) および高さは 232 ft (70.7 meters) である。身廊の内部の高さは124 feet (37.8 meters) である。
元々はビザンティン・リヴァイヴァル-ロマネスク・リヴァイヴァル様式で設計されたが、1909年以降にはゴシック・リヴァイヴァル様式に設計変更された[2][3]。2001年12月18日の大火事の後、修復のために一時閉鎖され、2008年11月に再開された.[2]。この聖堂は未だ未完成であり、建設および改修は現在も続いている[2][3]。その結果、この聖堂はよく未完成のセント・ジョン (St. John the Unfinished) とあだ名される[4]。
