When cleaning her house, Carlotta discovered an old box of candles and figurines, each of which is unique. She wants to display the items on a shelf. How many different ways can she place the items in a row on the shelf if she alternates between candles and figurines?
(1) If only the figurines were lined up, 40,320 different arrangements would be possible.
(2) Carlotta has one more candle than figurine.

The answer is C.
Statement 1:- Tells us that the number of ways figurines can be arranged is 40320, which means that x! is 40320 so she has 8 figurines. We still have no info on the candles.
Statement 2:- It gives us relation between no of candles and figurines, still not sufficient.
Combining both we know that there are 8 figurines and 9 candles so the problem can be solved.
Kudos if helpful.

IMHO C.
St1 - we can get the counts of figurines, but we do not know the counts of candles. -> Not sufficient.
St2 - Does not provide any count.
(1) + (2) - Sufficient.
