can anybody explain this question to me?
Hi! I am trying to reproduce the
TTP solution as per my understanding:
The question asks us for a strengthener for a cause and effect relationship. The ways in which one can strengthen such relationship is:
1. Ruling out any alternative cause possibility
2. Show that the effect does not occur when the cause doesn't occur
3. Show that the relationship is not actually reversed (the effect does not lead to the cause)
The qs asks us to strengthen the conclusion that- improving access to education can help slow population growth
Asking myself, 'What makes me believe more in the conclusion that - improving access to education can help slow population growth
Option Analysis-
A. Parents who have many children often have difficulty paying for their children to be educated.- Doesnt affect the causality. Arg does not talk about 'paying'
B. On average, the more educated people are, the more knowledgeable they are about how to optimally rear children.- The arg does not talk/ is not concerned about optimally rearing children
C. It is not the case that the governments that do the most to promote education are also those that do the most to advocate having small families.- If these govts did actually do things to advocate for smaller families, it may be the case that it is this advocacy and not education that is helping slow down population. Notice the 'It is not the case'. Option says this is not the case, thus one less reason to believe that something else could cause slowdown in population instead of education. Thus strengthens.
D. Children who are better educated tend to cause their parents less trouble than children who are less well educated.- The argument is not concerned about kids causing trouble
E. People who have children as teenagers are more likely to drop out of school than and tend to have more children than people who start having children later in life.- This says that a third factor- having children as teenagers - is an external factor which prompts dropping out (thus less education) and having more children and not education as the primary cause. This kinda weakens the conclusion by stating an alternate cause.
( I chose this option when I solved because I misinterpreted the option :/)
