Hey,
Apras_21Thank you for your post!
I'd be delighted to offer some guidance on your journey towards pursuing an MBA. Firstly, your profile is quite remarkable and certainly brings a lot to the table, but like any application, it has its strengths and areas where you might need to brace for challenges.
Strengths:Diverse Educational Background: Your transition from a BA in Economics to a Master's in International Business, especially with a distinction in the latter, showcases your academic capacity, which is a strong point. Moreover, having around seven years of experience with notable stints in both the consulting sector and the pharmaceutical industry is impressive, and you must highlight your stint where you worked directly under the Global Head; this experience is invaluable, and try to add as many things you learned as possible, particularly as you aim to pivot to senior managerial roles.
Add more value to your International Exposure as it makes you a good fit for business schools looking to diversify their student body.
Career Goals: You have a clear vision for your future, aiming to transition into senior managerial positions. This clarity will help you craft compelling essays that resonate with the admissions committees.
Areas of Concern:
Undergraduate GPA: Your undergraduate GPA might be lower than the typical profile of admitted students. However,
your improved performance in your master's program and adding any accolades from extra-curricular activity, interesting courses, or skill set acquired during your undergrad day can be a redeeming factor, demonstrating your ability to excel academically.
Employment Gap: There is
no need to particularly highlight your break as a "4-month unemployment gap" Also, someone so qualified being unemployed due to relocation could raise questions. It's crucial to address this in your application by adding a bit more to it and
framing it as a period of strategic career transition or personal growth.
GMAT Score: While a 690 is a strong score for someone trying for R3 and of Indian background, it will be tough to crack since the
average for schools like Oxford and Cambridge is around 700+. For Singapore, your GMAT score will do so; making sure the rest of your application is robust will be key to making your GMAT score work in your favor.
Advice for Application:Highlight Growth and Leadership: In your essays, emphasize the growth you've experienced through your diverse roles and the leadership qualities you've developed. Share specific examples where you've made a significant impact. Secondly, address the GPA and Employment Gap and be upfront about it, focusing on your progression and the proactive steps you're taking toward your career goals.
Research and Tailor Your Applications: Please make sure you understand what each program offers and how it aligns with your career goals. Tailor your application to reflect this alignment with the school goals, showing the admissions committees why you're a perfect fit for their program and how you intend to contribute.
With its unique blend of experiences and academic achievements, your profile certainly positions you as a strong candidate. With a well-crafted application that addresses the areas of concern and highlights your strengths, you will stand a good chance of securing admission to these prestigious programs. Please remember that the application process is also about finding the right fit, so make sure that your chosen programs align with your career aspirations and personal values.
Good luck!
