There are two deadlines left for INSEAD’s full-time program in Europe that begins in January 2025, and those deadlines are quickly approaching. They fall on June 18 and August 6, 2024. What are some best practices that can enable you to make these deadlines so you might soon embark on an INSEAD education? Consider these steps.Prepare for your GMAT or GRE test. INSEAD requires a standardized test score as part of its admissions process. So, you should begin to study for your exam. Many candidates rely on self-study only, using materials like those provided by GMAC, the maker of the GMAT Exam. (For a look at some of their offerings, click here: https://www.mba.com/exams/gmat-exam/prep-for-the-exam/prep-strategies.) After you take a practice exam or two, you may find you need additional preparation focused on a specific area, such as quant skills. Once you know if there are areas you need to strengthen, you can consider taking a course online or hiring a private tutor. On the traditional GMAT exam that was recently replaced by the GMAT Focus edition, a score above 700 was fine for INSEAD. That equates to 655 on the current edition of the GMAT. (GMAT Focus is now referred to only as the GMAT Exam, because it is now the only version of the GMAT exam available). On the GRE, it is ideal to be at least in the high 80th percentile on all parts of the exam. If your score does not come in as high as you would like, don’t give up! INSEAD shows flexibility and candidates with less-than-ideal standardized test scores can sometimes still have a solid shot at INSEAD if they present outstanding applications (essays and recommendations, in particular).Recommendations. You should reach out to your recommendation writers as early as possible and ensure they compose outstanding recommendations before the deadline. Take the time to consider who will be the best writers for you. The best recommendation writers will be superior to you and know your professional work directly. Aside from this, consider who can write a glowing recommendation that provides abundant details about your distinguishing traits and strengths as a leader and businessperson. Once you determine the ideal recommendation writers, contact them, secure their commitment to provide a letter of recommendation, and guide them to understand what sorts of topics they should include so that the recommendation can be exceptional in its quality.Draft Your Essays. The INSEAD full-time MBA application for the January 2025 intake includes 4 job essays, 1 optional essay, and 4 motivation essays. This is much more content than typical in MBA applications! The essays have a significant impact on your outcomes, so you need to spend ample time determining what content will present your credentials and potential in the very best light. Brainstorm, generate first drafts, and refine your drafts until they shine. Be sure to express your ideas concisely so you can pack a lot of information into these relatively short essays. Wordiness is not your friend! You don’t want to use a lot of words to say what can be said succinctly, because you’ll lose the opportunity to make more winning points. If you need to hire a consultant who brings years of working on successful INSEAD applications as a means to guide you, consider doing so.Turn Your Resume Into a Winning Application Resume. When reading your application, many admissions officers will begin with your resume. It offers a crucial snapshot of your candidacy. Your resume makes a very important first impression! Tailor your resume to serve you well in the admissions process. It should showcase your strengths in the areas INSEAD most cares about with regard to admission – professional achievement, skills, and impact, along with academic success and leadership in the community.
Visit INSEAD. If possible, visit INSEAD – if not before the deadline, certainly before your interview. Visiting the campus signals to the admissions committee that you are very interested in the program and willing to take the time and bear the expense to get on campus to deepen your understanding of all INSEAD offers. If you are within a reasonable distance from the school – say, only two hours away by plane – the school will wonder why you did not bother to visit. So, if at all possible, try to squeeze in a visit to the campus.
If you simply cannot visit before your interview, take steps to show you made other efforts to learn in-depth about INSEAD and its curriculum, culture, and offerings. You should demonstrate engagement beyond merely reading the program website.Application form. Don’t forget to give yourself plenty of time to fill in the online application form. Many candidates address the application form on the last day before submitting it, which can mean they run out of time to proofread the application form. Presenting a form riddled with typos will leave a bad impression, potentially making the admissions committee think you put together important parts of the application with haste, at the last minute. So, begin the application form at least a few days before you plan to submit it so you have time to refine your inputs and check them for errors.
