I'm no expert on this issue, but all the opinions I've heard so far say no to the objective section.

Hi everyone -- this is a very valuable topic, but this thread has not been very active. One of my colleagues recently published this blog post of useful resume tips, for anyone who might find it helpful:

How to Create the Best Possible Resume for Your MBA Application

Best of luck, everyone!

I saw Rotman template that you sent. I don't see skills sections, like i want to tell i know python, sql and 10 other tools and technologies...then do i not include them? Also what about the small pic at the top corner?

Like I said, this is not the approach I ask my clients to take. But schools don't really have a preference as to the format of the resume you use.
Although, we do have a top 10 or nothing challenge going on, you can see if you qualify- Here

Hi ,

How much does it affect my application if I have a 2 months gap and I am unemployed at the time of applying to a masters in European schools ?
I currently have 15 months of experience and I am applying for programs which do not require any work experience.

Thanks

Your resume or curriculum vitae (CV) is your introduction to potential employers and educational institutions. It's a crucial document that can make or break your chances of securing the position you desire. To help you stand out in the competitive application process, this guide explores the best practices for formatting, templates, and tips for creating an impressive resume or CV. Additionally, we'll introduce you to Scholar Den, a comprehensive GRE prep platform that also offers valuable resources and support for crafting a standout resume or CV.

Formatting:

1. Clarity and Consistency: Keep your formatting clear and consistent. Use a professional font and maintain uniform margins. A well-organized document is visually appealing and easy to read.

2. Bullet Points: Use bullet points to list your achievements, responsibilities, and skills. This format makes it easier for recruiters and admissions committees to skim through your qualifications.

3. Length: Resumes are typically one page, while CVs can be longer, especially for academic or research positions. However, avoid unnecessary details and focus on relevant information.

Templates:

1. Choose a Template: Select a resume or CV template that suits your field. Scholar Den offers access to a variety of templates to cater to different academic and professional areas.

2. Customize: Tailor your chosen template to reflect your unique qualifications. Highlight your strengths, experiences, and skills in a way that aligns with the specific position or program you're applying for.

Tips:

1. Relevance: Emphasize the most relevant information. Include details that directly support your application.

2. Action Verbs: Use action verbs to describe your accomplishments. Words like "achieved," "managed," and "created" make your experiences more impactful.

3. Quantify Achievements: Whenever possible, include numbers to quantify your accomplishments. For instance, "Increased sales by 20% in Q3."

4. Proofread: Carefully proofread your resume or CV to eliminate typos and grammatical errors. A flawless document reflects attention to detail.

Now, let's talk about Scholar Den. While primarily known for its exceptional GRE preparation resources, Scholar Den also recognizes the importance of a strong resume or CV in your academic and professional journey. With their guidance and support, you can enhance your application materials, making them as impressive as your GRE scores.

Scholar Den offers a holistic approach to your academic and professional development. Alongside GRE preparation, they provide valuable insights into crafting application documents and offer guidance to help you secure your desired position. With their personalized approach, you'll be better equipped to create an outstanding resume or CV that sets you apart from the competition.

Thanks bb for getting all the links together...

Wanted a suggestion regarding extracurricular activities during college...Is it advisable to segregate the extracurricular activities into two sections in the resume (college & post-college) or should all of them be ideally clubbed under just one section?

Are there any best practices around the no. of sections a resume should have?

Thats a great Q. I had a similar one, in regards to clubs and time donated after college... If those are still highly regarded or if they only look at activities during undergrad

I think you want one section unless that's the meat of your resume. Take a look at some of the samples available (Resume books/etc).

I had actually had a look at the books and had found only 3 sections in most of the resumes...I guess in my heart I knew that it had to be 3 sections but I'm a big fan of 4 sections since it clearly demarcates the college & the post-college stages..My current resume has the following sections -
1. Professional Experience
2. Extracurricular Activities - Post College
3. Education
4. Extracurricular Activities - College

However, if the best practice is to just have 3, then I guess I'll have to merge the two extracurricular sections and ensure that the wording clearly indicates when that activity was done i.e. during college or post college!

Thanks for your response!

Where can we see modern resume templates; the resume book here dates back to 2009 and is not visually appealing. What about Canva-like resumes? are they not allowed?

I think this is counter intuitive to what I recommend to most clients but if you really want just one resume template- https://www.rotman.utoronto.ca/-/media/ ... 57F488A339
