Hi moxnguyen,
Thanks for posting your profile, and asking this question. We definitely hear this question a lot. And there is some truth in the length of work experience that many full time MBA programs prefer. One easy way to get some data on this is to review the class profile that schools publish on their websites. They will usually reveal the average years of work experience, average age of the incoming class, and so on.
With your experience, have you looked into programs that are more tailored for you? For example, the Kellogg 1-year Accelerated MBA program is excellent for candidates who already have some business experience (such as yourself) and are looking to elevate their career. Stanford GSB has a 1-year MSx program (Masters of Science in Management) that is tailored for applicants with 8 or more years of work experience.
The advantages of these programs tailored for mid-career professionals include: you may be able to skip some basic business classes, you are out of the job market for a shorter length of time, and you are attending school with classmates with a more similar range of experiences, eg. starting to manage people, etc.
If you would like to discuss these programs or your profile in more detail, feel free to schedule a 1:1 consultation with us. Wishing you the best in your MBA journey!
Sincerely,
Debbie
