Greek theater originated from religious festivals honoring Dionysus. Performances included tragic dramas by Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, as well as comedies by Aristophanes. Theater was an integral part of Greek culture and performed in amphitheaters with the audience seated on rising tiers around the orchestra. Aristotle's Poetics analyzed Greek dramatic structure, while Roman theater borrowed from Greek traditions and incorporated performances into their own religious festivals.
The document provides a summary of a day in the life of a theatre. It describes the various roles that make up a theatre ensemble and what they do throughout the day. In the morning, artistic and production meetings take place to plan creative vision and finances. Rehearsals begin in the morning with the stage manager assisting the director. Costume construction happens at noon. The afternoon involves design work from musical directors, choreographers, and others. Evening activities include actors arriving for the show, an audience filling the house, and stagehands running the production. The day concludes with a performance and rolling out the ghost light overnight.
The document provides background information on ancient Greek theater. It discusses key elements like the orchestra, skene, masks, costumes and roles of the chorus. It also summarizes some of the main Greek tragedies, including Oedipus Rex by Sophocles which tells the story of Oedipus solving the Sphinx's riddle and ultimately discovering his tragic fate was to kill his father and marry his mother.
The document provides a history of drama from ancient to 18th century forms. It begins with ancient Greek drama, noting the origins in Athens and innovations of Aeschylus and Sophocles who established tragedy as a unique art form. Medieval drama developed liturgical plays performed in churches. English restoration drama reopened theaters in 1660, focusing on comedy of manners influenced by Moliere. The 18th century saw domestic dramas and satires by writers like Fielding and Gay until censorship laws were imposed in 1737.
This document provides a summary of the ancient Greek play Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus. It describes the protagonist Prometheus who stole fire from the gods and gave it to mankind, angering Zeus. As punishment, Prometheus is chained to a mountain by Zeus's orders, where his liver is eaten daily by an eagle only to regrow and be eaten again. The summary outlines the plot including interactions between Prometheus and other gods and the climax in which Prometheus refuses to reveal a secret to Hermes despite threats of further torture.
Greek theatre originated during festivals, where one person would act as the director, writer, and performer. Later, there were a maximum of three actors allowed on stage, making the chorus important. The main forms of Greek theatre were tragedy, comedy, and satyr. Tragedies dealt with serious themes, while comedies used imitation and only 11 of Aristophanes' comedies survived. Satyr plays treated mythological subjects comically. Greek theatres were large, open-air structures built into hillsides, consisting of an orchestra performance space, a skene building used for changing, and seating for audiences. All actors were male and had to use exaggerated gestures and loud voices to be heard by audiences far away without micro
Greek drama reflected Greek society's flaws and values, with audiences internalizing both positive and negative messages. Plays were performed in theaters for festivals honoring Dionysus, with the earliest being built in Athens in the 6th century BCE. Tragedies focused on the downfall of a heroic protagonist and taught moral lessons, while comedies used crude humor and typically had happy endings. Greek theater thus exposed societal issues while educating and entertaining audiences.
Roman theater developed in three periods: an early native Italian drama period, a period of Greek adaptations, and a later renaissance of popular entertainment. Roman theater was influenced by Greek drama but also Etruscan and Italian traditions. Comedies were most popular, with only a few playwrights' works surviving including Plautus and Terence. Tragedies followed Greek models but with more graphic violence. Theater performances were presented in festivals and purpose-built structures like the Colosseum could host thousands of spectators. However, as the Roman Empire declined, Christianity rose to oppose pagan theater.
Medieval theatre developed from 5th-16th century and included religious plays like mysteries about biblical stories, miracles about saints' lives, and moralities with allegorical themes. These were typically performed by trade guilds and clergy to teach illiterate audiences. Secular plays also emerged like interludes for courtly entertainment and folk plays incorporating pagan traditions. Dramatic techniques included processional wagons, allegorical characters, and special effects. Theatre was an integral part of medieval culture and education.
This document discusses the role of designers in theatre productions. It explains that designers must research locations, time periods, and characters to transform the written page into visual elements on stage. Designers consider elements like line, dimension and balance to fill the empty performance space. They create sets, lighting, costumes, props, sounds, and makeup to reflect the play and characters. Design team meetings are held to define a central vision and address practical concerns like budgets and stage limitations. Though unseen, designers' work brings the production to life and deserves recognition.
This document provides information about drama and its elements. It discusses the history of drama in Western cultures from ancient Greece and Rome to modern times. It also summarizes the history and traditions of drama in India, including Sanskrit drama and modern Urdu drama in India and Pakistan. Drama in Japan is also briefly outlined, focusing on the traditional Noh drama form. The document covers a wide range of topics related to drama across various cultures and time periods.
The document provides an overview of theatre in Ancient Greece. It discusses that theatre originated around 550 BC in Athens to honor Dionysus, the god of wine. Plays were performed as competitions during festivals. The three main types of plays were tragedies, comedies, and satyr plays. Tragedies dealt with themes like love and power, while comedies mocked men. Famous playwrights included Sophocles, Aeschylus, and Euripides. Theatres had a semi-circular auditorium for audiences and a stage area for performances. Costumes and masks were used to depict characters and their social statuses.
The document provides information about key components of Greek theatre and context for the play Antigone by Sophocles. The main components of Greek theatre included the theatron or seating area, orchestra or performance space, and skene or backdrop. Actors, usually men, wore masks and used elaborate gestures while the chorus consisted of 12-15 men who sang and danced. Antigone took place during the annual Dionysia festival in Athens and was written by Sophocles around 495 BCE, set against the background of events in myths involving Oedipus and his children.
This document provides an overview of Greek tragedy and the play Medea. It discusses key features of Greek theaters including the orchestra, skene, and theatron spaces. It outlines conventions like the use of masks and all-male casts. The document also summarizes information about famous playwrights like Euripides and Aeschylus and the origins of annual theatrical competitions held in Athens to honor Dionysus. It concludes with details about specific elements that make Medea, written by Euripides, a unique tragedy, like its use of the mechane device and Medea's deliberate murder of her children.
The document discusses the origins and forms of theatre around the world. It begins by describing ritual theatre and the transition from ritual to theatre in Africa, India, China, and Egypt. It then focuses on specific theatre forms within those regions, such as Noh theatre and Kathakali in India, Peking opera in China, and shadow theatre in Islamic cultures. The document notes influences between Eastern and Western theatre as well.
The document provides background information on ancient Greek theater. It discusses the main parts of a Greek theater including the theatron (seating area), orchestra (performance space), and skene (backstage area). It describes how plays were performed using minimal props and scenery. Key figures in Greek drama are highlighted such as the playwrights Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. The functions of masks and choruses are also summarized.
Medieval theatre from 400-1500 CE developed from liturgical drama performed during mass to vernacular plays performed for the public. The Church initially opposed pagan Roman play festivals but then leveraged theatre by incorporating dramatic biblical stories into mass to make it more interesting, such as the Quem Quaeritis Easter trope added in 925 CE. Vernacular plays in the local language later emerged and fell into the three categories of Miracle, Mystery, and Morality plays, which were performed on pageant wagons in the streets. The Church remained in charge of theatre and influenced its use to spread Christianity.

- Introduction au test unitaire, recherche d'éléments, parcours, tri, etc.
5. **Langage algorithmique** :
- Un exemple simple d'écriture algorithmique :

Le théâtre latin
1. LE THEATRE LATIN
I.Le lieu
II.Ses origines
III.Les genres, les thèmes, le personnel
IV.Les auteurs connus, les pièces célèbres
V.L'influance du théâtre latin
