Has anyone noticed that the patent number cited by Margaret Conner (317/38) does not match the format used by any known patent office? This format does not correspond to a patent classification code either. It appears to be a date: March 17, 1938! An example of a German patent number is DE767258 (this is a patent number for one of Ohain's patents). There are no slashes.
