Lutherstrophe is a seven-line strophe used in German literature.[1] First used in Minnesang, the strophe became popular in 16th-century Lutheran hymn. It is named after Martin Luther.[2]

Structure[edit]

The rhyme scheme is ABABCCB or ABABCCX.[3] The first four lines are an alternating rhyme ABAB, followed by two lines of a third rhyme C. The last line is again the second rhyme B or does not rhyme X. The schema ist related to rhyme royal ABABBCC.[4]
