Wikipedia:WikiProject Pokémon/Species focus archive

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

These are archives of the discussions on what the aticle needs improving about it.

  • It needs an In the card game section.
    • Perhaps this could be merged with the manga section. in other properties? A Man In Black's idea.
    • I'll add the card game info. --RealWingus
      • Done. I also removed the External links, I think they are unnecessary. --RealWingus
  • The infobox needs to be updated to the new template if the disvcussion heralds a "yes" about it coming in at all.
    • Add the infobox. If the consensus is to change the box, we can always go back and fix it.
  • It needs some information about its Video game stats and what advantages/disaadvantages it has against the other starters.
  • We should add info on strengths and weakness against Bulbsaur, this is important info! -vs151
  • I can cover that.-Waterbending girl12

What can't you do? This needs a total rewrite, but, specifically:

  • Lead needs fixing up per WP:PAC/S
    • Needs to be clear about its role as a Pokemon (one of the first that the player encounters, etc)
  • Headers need fixing -- done. WindFish
  • Needs more info from the Anime - it's appeared loads of times. Plot summaries would be good.
    • I included the most relevant stuff I could find, but it really hasn’t played a noteworthy role many times. -- WikidSmaht (talk)
  • Needs just one section about the video games - done, but needs more info. WindFish
    • Stats ...etc...
      • Is that really necessary? I don't think anyone battles with Weedle, and you can't even teach it any moves other than String Shot and Poison Sting. -- WikidSmaht (talk)
  • Needs a biology section, including all of the info from all of the entries in the Pokedex.
    • Created, but needs more info -WindFish
      • Done, all Pokédex info (from 12 different games) synthesized into a prose paragraph. Wish it was longer, but the entries were all pretty repetitive. -- WikidSmaht (talk)
  • Try searching Amazon for books including it - does it appear in the news?
  • It must appear in the manga somewhere.
    • I put in the most prominent appearances from Pokémon Adventures, I don't know much about the other manga, don't currently have access to my Electric Tale of Pikachu stuff. WikidSmaht (talk)
  • Needs concensus as to whether “In the Pokémon anime” and “In other media” should have subheaders.

Note: In the anime section, there is a note on Casey, which has a link. However the link leads you to Abra.

Casey (Pokémon) I'm not sure what it means, or if there actually is an article on Casey, but maybe someone should look into it.

Probably because “Edgar Cayce” is pronouced “Edgar Casey”. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 14:19, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, what had that got to do with Pokémon or Abra? Right... Highway 21:45, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's a bit clearer if you read the Abra article, where it tells you the Japanese name of Abra is "Kēshī". I suppose this can be romanized as "Casey", which would explain the redirect. WarpstarRider 23:52, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What a mess! Yuk! Anyway, this mainly needs expansion, as opposed to style since every would-be section is about 1 sentence long:

  1. Create a 2 paragraph lead, one for why it's important (and the crucial lead sentence) and the other for what it looks like (mention Ken Sugimori)
  2. All sections need to be 2 good paragraphs long before splitting off into headers. There must be loads we can write, it's a starter evolution for cripes sake!
  3. Get some pictures - scan a card, photograph a toy, screenshot it on an Emulator...
I got a TCG card photo, in a rush and haven't put a caption or anything yet, somebody do that...
  4. References could do with some serious cleaning up.
  5. Search pokémoncenter.com, toysnjoysonline.com and hasbro.com for merchandise
I found as much as I could, but I'm sure there must be more than what I found. PrimeCupEevee 02:09, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Find out if any of the cards are notable
  7. Find out if it appears in any other manga
Now I wonder where you found this article? :P I'll keep working on Weedle and report back later.. moving on I'm going to freak on this... now!
We definitely need to convert the Trivia section so it follows the PCP Style Guide. I think if we clarify it to fit the suggested sections, it should go from terrible to bad.--XenoNeon (converse) 17:48, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you check Talk:Bulbasaur we've to adopt Bulbasaur's style, it does make more sense, German and French names aren't vital info, why should they be there?
  • Lead
  • "Information" section
    • Rename (Biology or characteristics, whichever appropriate)
    • Remove in-game perspective and POV
    • Reference in the Pokédex
  • "Availablility" section
    • Rename (In the [Pokémon] video games)
    • Who uses it and why (how good is it?)?
    • Evolution
  • "Extra" - merge into video games section or other media as appropriate
  • Not currently included
    • "In the Pokémon anime" section needed - summaries and references needed (Serebii'll do)
    • "In other media"
      • Does it appear in the manga? If so, we need summaries and references (Serebii'll do)
      • Toys/books? (can be referenced with Amazon or suchlike)
      • Trading card game - we need a scan of a card, and we need to know how good it is, why it's used ...etc...

Lots to do :). —Celestianpower háblame 16:06, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

the quotes were there because parts of it were verbatim from the Pokedex itself. -Zappernapper 04:26, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
