Etymology 1
[edit]/utuso2mi1/ *[utusəmi] → /utusomi/. A contraction of 現し (utsushi, “reality”) and 臣 (omi1, “subject, vassal”). Older form of 空蝉 (utsusemi). The kanji are ateji.
