العربية: تظهر هذه الصورة التسمية التي تدعو لها مؤسسة البرمجيات الحرة لنظام التشغيل الحر المتكامل الذي يتكون أساسًا من نظام التشغيل شبه المكتمل غنو والنواة لينكس. ("غنو/لينكس" و"غنو" مقبولان أما "لينكس" فليس كذلك)
English: GNU is a Unix-like operating system that is free software. The Hurd, GNU's own kernel, is some way from being ready for daily use. Thus, GNU is typically used today with a kernel called Linux. This combination is the GNU/Linux operating system. GNU/Linux is used by millions, though many call it "Linux" by mistake.
Français : GNU est un système d'exploitation libre lancé en 1983 par Richard Stallman, puis maintenu par le projet GNU. Le noyau Hurd est resté longtemps à l’état de projet, mais le travail réalisé a permis de finaliser une variante du système GNU basée sur le noyau Linux. Une querelle sémantique a, pour cette raison, éclaté ces dernières années concernant l’appellation GNU/Linux afin de faire référence au système dans son intégralité.
