These shields contain the copyrighted winged animal, designed for the TinTin series as can be seen here or here. As Herge died in 1983, I assume these derivative works are protected by copyright until january 2054 and can be undeleted then. .

  • I would recommend replacing each pelican displayed charge (for that is what they are) with a w:en:clean room reimplementation of them which will therefore not have been designed by Georges Remi but merely based on the basic description of the arms (and therefore a separate work, along the lines of COM:COA#Public domain definition (blazon)), then revdeling the earlier versions. This can work for both arms and flags and is also an opportunity to consolidate Commons' Tintin heraldic assets. I volunteer to follow up on this if the situation is amenable. In my view, this wouldn't make much sense. As the Tintin comics are a work of fiction and there is no "real" coat of arms of Syldavia, the only coat of arms of any interest here is the one designed by Hergé exactly as it appears in Tintin, of which a "clean room reimplementation" with a differently designed pelican wouldn't be an accurate representation and misleading as an illustration in the context of Tintin comics. English-language Wikipedia has a a fair use policy, so for example File:Blason sy royaume de syldavie.svg could be transferred there (and to certain other Wikipedia language versions which allow fair use), which would be better for the illustrative purposes there than a "reimagined" version. So, I would  Delete the files here without replacement, but fair-use copies for Wikipedia would be possible. Gestumblindi (talk) 21:17, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
