Image processed by 3rd party, therefore not allowed to have PD CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 20:52, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Comment The image was processed by Roman Tkachenko and uploaded bu user:T-RoMaN. Sneeuwschaap (talk) 22:33, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Please explain why an image processed by a third party can't be in the public domain. If the image was processed and uploaded by Tkachenko then the license is technically wrong (not solely created by NASA), but it seems to me that the author (Tkachenko) intended to put it into the public domain (which they'd be allowed to do, since the original NASA image was in the PD). So, rather than deleting the image, I suggest to update the rationale, explaining why the image is in the PD (own work, based on PD image created by NASA). @Nrco0e: I notice that you reverted the file back to a version as of August 2019. What does that achieve? All the changes since then don't seem to be a problem, as they are cosmetic and trivial in nature. The issue, I believe, is with the original 2015 upload. Note that this is an extracted image of File:Nix.jpg, created by the same user. That file has "own work" as the source, and is put under a CC BY-SA 4.0 license. Renerpho (talk) 00:38, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why not just ask the author? What am I missing here? Many of us do post-processing of NASA images, and the image itself remains in the public domain. This image has great value for study and reference, and it would be a shame to lose it because of obscure ownership issues. 71.218.67.218 21:45, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: apparently uploaded by the creator or "processor", license tags seem to have been fixed. --Rosenzweig τ 16:53, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
