This $60,000 robot chef claims to do everything but clean the dishes.

I have a lot of questions about the Chefee — a robotic kitchen insert that stores, preps, and cooks meals for you. And I’m not alone. At the Smart Kitchen Summit this week, there was plenty of chatter about the impressive-looking contraption. Helpfully, the company’s CEO put together this Instagram reel to address some of them. But I still want to know how anyone is supposed to afford this.

Tea with a twist.

Wanderstop comes from the creators of the Stanley Parable, and its trailer makes the teamaking management game seem pretty cozy... at least at first.

Can this smart oven fill the June-shaped hole in the smart kitchen?

The Chef IQ Mini Oven is a $300 smart oven that can heat up 40 percent faster than the fastest air fryer, the company told me at the Smart Kitchen Summit in Seattle this week.

The countertop oven features a ceramic interior, edge-to-edge glass door, and touchscreen display. It works with the Chef IQ app and wireless thermometer for guided cooking, and is coming this September.

Now that it’s all but official that the June Oven is dead, I’m on the hunt for a new favorite smart oven.

Arkham Shadow emerges from the shadows.

A month ago, we got news that a new Batman: Arkham game was in the works, this time exclusively for the Meta Quest 3. Now, we have a brief trailer detailing a very bad July 4th in Gotham City. Unfortunately, Arkham Shadow still doesn’t have a release date — only that it will arrive in fall 2024.

Today I learned some cheap wired earbuds actually use Bluetooth.

Sounds like it’s mostly knockoff Apple Earpods. Wired explains:

What’s going on is this: The plug on the buds using this workaround goes into the Lightning slot, which then doubles as a Bluetooth receiver that receives power from the port but routes its signal through the phone’s Bluetooth. That means your wired connection is actually wireless.

Quidditch: Champions flies to PC and console on September 3rd.

The game, first announced last year, will let you play solo or with friends as you race around on broomsticks to score points for your team. It’s coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X | S, and the Nintendo Switch for $29.99.

This blender is powered by an induction cooktop.

The cordless kitchen could soon be real. Kitchenery showed off a wirelessly powered blender and kettle at the Smart Kitchen Summit this week. But — unlike other wirelessly-powered gadgets — it doesn’t require a special (expensive) charging pad. Instead, both devices can be powered off an induction cooktop.

The company is also developing a silent blender, cordless toaster, air fryer, and pressure cooker.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is free on the Epic Games Store.

Ash called it “an unexpected triumph of tactics and friendship.” If you haven’t picked up the XCOM-and-Fire-Emblem-meets-Marvel superheroes game yet, there’s no better time than now — it’s free, no strings attached, at EGS through June 13th.

The anime studio that made Neon Genesis Evangelion has filed for bankruptcy.

Gainax, which also produced iconic works like Gurren Lagann, filed for bankruptcy after facing large amounts of debt, along with a lawsuit from a debt collector. The anime studio Khara has acquired the Gainax trademark.

Saurabh Netravalkar, a legend in two games.

Following a shocking World Cup cricket win by the US over Pakistan, people are learning about players like Super Over hero Netravalkar. Other than being a “zippy left arm quick bowler with an efficient action capable of swinging the ball in both directions,” he’s also an Oracle software engineer.

If you need to become a cricket expert before next Wednesday’s matchup with India, try this explainer.

Amazon will begin testing robotaxis in Austin and Miami too.

That’s on top of San Francisco, Las Vegas, Seattle, and Zoox’s original Foster City test. Note, though:

We won’t be deploying our purpose-built robotaxi or offering public rides in Austin or Miami just yet. Our target cities for our first commercial markets remain Las Vegas and San Francisco. But we’re exploring several cities for future commercial offerings after our initial launch.

This is what a desktop motherboard with CAMM2 memory modules looks like.

Originally I was just excited for LPCAMM2 modular laptop memory, but low-profile desktop RAM too? Hells yes.

Say hi, Gemini.

Google’s new ad showcases the many things its Gemini large language model can do — from the Gemini chatbot to Circle to Search and AI Overviews.

I can’t believe we’ve entered the LLM ad phase of this reality, but with ChatGPT becoming a household name and “Apple Intelligence” around the corner, the branding efforts will only increase.

A motherboard with no USB-A ports... but 10 USB-C instead.

ASRock just traveled back in time from a distant future where USB-A is dead. Here’s its new Taichi Aqua motherboard as proof (via VideoCardz).

MrBeast’s charity’s latest video was funded by Koch money.

The video “We Schooled Hundreds of Teachers” was funded in part by Stand Together, an organization founded by right-wing billionaire Charles Koch, reports Fast Company.

The video profiles Ron Clark Academy, a private school in Atlanta. For decades, the Koch family has worked to undermine public schools. “Education alternatives” are one of Stand Together’s key issues.

Tony Fadell is as “excited as a kid at Christmas” about Thread in Macs and iPads.

He shared The Verge’s article about the smart home protocol appearing in Apple devices across social media this week. Fadell developed Thread for the Nest Thermostat over a decade ago and says Apple’s move “reminds me how long deep tech takes for broad adoption. But, when it’s the right thing, it’s the right thing.”

Threads might end up using normal hashtags after all.

The platform’s “tag” feature is different than traditional hashtags — users can tag phrases, not just words, and the # symbol disappears once the tag is added.

App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi reports Meta is experimenting with displaying the # symbol. It’s a small change, but could potentially help when crossposting to the fediverse, which currently breaks the added Threads tag.
