The Phillies overcame the awful City Connect uniforms and Ben Davis’s broadcasting for a casual Friday night win.

Garrett Crochet got the start for the White Sox and came into this game with a promising start to the season as their ace. He pitched to a 3.57 ERA in his first starts which included seven innings of one-run ball against the Atlanta Braves earlier in the month.

However, the Phillies offense didn’t care, Trea Turner singled after Schwarber struck out, followed by a Bryce Harper walk. After a JT Realmuto strike-out, Alec Bohm got a hold of a high fastball for a three-run opposite-field dinger.

Skipping to the third, Trea Turner pulled a cutter down the left field line and off he half-wall for a one-out double before Bryce Harper walked. JT Realmuto then hit a pop-up.

Sounds familiar? It did to Alec Bohm. This time he caught a cutter that leaked towards the middle of the plate and another three-run homer.

It didn’t get any better for Crochet in the fourth. This time it was the struggling Whit Merrifield who pulled a slider into the seats to make it 7-0.

On the other side, it was the Spencer Turnbull show. He once again showcased his five-pitch arsenal for a dominant seven-inning performance.

The White Sox offense doesn’t feature many threatening hitters outside of a Paul DeJong hot-streak but Turnbull avoided hard contact the entire night. His four-seam fastball allowed an average exit velocity of 86.9 mph, the White Sox struggled to barrel anything up.

His sweeper generated four whiffs on eleven swings and strikeouts from Eloy Jiménez, Andrew Vaughn, and Nicky Lopez.

He faced a little trouble in the seventh when Gavin Sheets took a first-pitch fastball into right field for their first hit of the night and a five-pitch walk from Vaughn.

After an extensive mound visit from Realmuto, Andrew Benintendi grounded out and Paul DeJong flew out.

The Phillies have won four straight after an eight-and-eight start to the season. Meanwhile, the White Sox have 38 runs in their first 19 games of the season.

Here are a few more notes:

JT Realmuto showcased some strange near gear that sparked some hilarious Twitter comparisons from a Transformers toy to Curious George.

I see him look more like Barry B. Benson from Bee Movie. The blue on the horrific City Connect uniforms doesn’t make this a great comparison but Jerry Seinfeld’s character was the first idea that came to my mind.

Orion Kerkering made his second appearance of the season and showcased his nasty sweeper for a strikeout. His fastball command looked as good as it has ever been for him in a low-leverage outing against the White Sox.

Whit Merrifield now has a higher OPS than Nick Castellanos. Castellanos has really struggled to find his swing with another ball hit to the warning track.
