It introduces Eurotech's approach of using integration platforms and device application frameworks to enable more efficient and flexible M2M/IoT systems.
Reshaping Business Through IoT: Key Technology Factors to ConsiderEurotech
The IoT is the manifestation that the raw material of the information age is datum. Data are the new source of innovation and the lever to achieve business sustainability. By extracting data from assets and products, companies can become more efficient through a strategic rethinking of their value chains and business processes. In so doing, companies will add the required readiness to shift from products to services, and eventually enter in the outcome economy. To truly embrace the digital transformation, organizations need to collect actionable data from their assets, processes, and products and then connect the OT (Operational Technology) world where data are generated to IT (Information Technology) world where data are consumed. Beside predictive maintenance and asset usage maximization/optimization the benefits are huge: the transformation of any business into a smart business, increasing competitiveness also in mature markets; the creation of new innovative products and services; and the enablement of service prosumerization.
To make this happen there are some key technology factors to consider during the implementation of an IoT architecture.

Agriculture in Pakistan faces many problems. Only 23.5% of Pakistan's total land area is cultivated, and per acre yields of major crops like wheat and rice are lower than in other countries due to outdated farming methods and a lack of infrastructure and technology. Small landholdings are also uneconomical as the average size is less than 2 hectares. Additionally, unstable market prices and a lack of funds negatively impact farmers. Many reforms are needed to modernize farming practices, improve irrigation systems, provide access to credit, and ensure stable returns to help Pakistani agriculture reach its full potential.
Agriculture is a major source of income and employment in Pakistan, with over 20% of GDP and 45% of the labor force coming from agriculture. Some key crops produced are wheat, rice, sugarcane, and cotton, which constitute around 75% of total crop production. However, agriculture in Pakistan faces challenges such as flooding, waterlogging, lack of irrigation, and inadequate transportation infrastructure. Improving control of water issues, providing more farmer training, and adopting modern techniques could help overcome these constraints.

As a matter of fact the IoT essence resides in an impressive simplification of the OT-IT integration. The benefits are huge: the transformation of any business into a smart business, increasing competitiveness also in mature markets; the creation of new innovative products and services.
- The document discusses the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) from earlier concepts of pervasive and ubiquitous computing. It argues that IoT, combined with cloud computing, allows for pervasive computing applications and grids on a larger scale.
- A key point is that IoT will drive business innovation through new products, services, and revenue models based on outcomes rather than simple transactions. Over time, IoT technologies may "Uberize" many different industries.
- For companies, successfully adopting IoT requires navigating innovations dilemmas around exponential technology changes versus more gradual organizational changes. Both integrating IT and OT systems and building bridges between distributed devices and business applications are discussed as important challenges.

Old vs. New in M2M
8. How do we make this happen ?
What needs to be done differently ?
•Think holistically, not about point in time problems - Often, an M2M system is seen as a point in time solution to a point in time problem. No consideration (budget) is given to how and where else the data might be used, or to how future, undefined assets might share the same infrastructure. Project led thinking remains one of the fundamental contributors to the continuing deployment of silos of automation, invariably resulting in significant downstream costs as new requirements emerge.
•Think data centric, not device centric – if a system needs to know in advance any device specific information in order to recover data from an it, then the data can’t be reused flexibly. This information must be abstracted by the platform, and stakeholder applications should only concern themselves with the types of information they are interested in.
•Think about remote device management via a common infrastructure – the ability to remotely manage a population of installed devices saves significantly on the lifetime cost of ownership of a system – FACT ! Make sure that you can do this over the same infrastructure used for the data recovery, and make sure the features cover what you need – application deployment & maintenance, device restart, diagnostics, firmware upgrades etc.
•Leverage existing technology solutions, don’t create ‘another’ standard – Great standards already exist to achieve the functionality needed in systems – VPNs, SSH tunnelling, SSL/IPSEC security, REST APIS for database access etc. Given the huge horizontal reach of IoT technology, no ‘one size fits all’ standard protocol is going to emerge, instead of trying to define one, use the most appropriate of the existing protocols in this space and focus on interoperability above the middleware layer.

?
17. M2M Integration Platform
•Everyware Cloud is about Device Data, about M2M: It has been built from the ground-up to provide an infrastructure that is optimized for device data communication, collection, analysis and management.
•It is an Integration Platform: Everyware Cloud is designed to act as an intermediate system between distributed devices and the applications interacting with them. Communication is bidirectional, allowing applications to control and manage the devices when required, and the system supports one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-one operation.
•Everyware Cloud is conceptually like an Operating System for the Internet of Things, enabling the transfer of device data to and from Enterprise applications independently of any other language, platform or OS

Eurotech Solution Recap
20. Eurotech M2M Solutions
Eurotech Named a Cool Vendor in Gartner 2013 IT/OT Alignment and Integration Report
According to the Gartner report recommendations, “Integration managers should look at cloud-based integration platforms supporting vendor neutral-technologies to optimize costs, accelerate time to deployment, and reduce vendor lock-in for integration of OT systems with enterprise applications.”
“Integration managers and other IT leaders involved in the definition and planning of IT/OT integration strategies should look at iPaaS-oriented approaches to address the issues of collecting, aggregating, filtering, preprocessing and analyzing OT data, and of integrating OT systems with back-end enterprise applications as a way to optimize costs and time to deployment,” according to the report.

21. Eurotech's M2M / IoT Value Proposition
• Gartner / Cool Vendors in IT/OT Alignment Report
“However, they should also favor providers, such as Eurotech, that offer open-standards- based platforms, and can support on-premises deployment models to minimize vendor lock-in issues and maintain strategic agility.”
• Eclipse Foundation / M. Milinkovich
“I just got the full Eclipse Kura demo and I was blown away. Very cool stuff.”
• VDC Research Group
“With two decades of embedded/M2M experience, existing capabilities, and investments, we expect Eurotech to differentiate itself versus other traditional embedded board vendors as the company moves up the value chain.”
• Harbor Research, White Paper
“Eurotech has organized a novel combination of tools and technologies that work together in unprecedented ways to solve more complex business problems than previous generations of intelligent device networking technology and enterprise applications have been able.”
