For the first time this offseason, the Lakers have reportedly asked to interview multiple people for their head coaching position.

The Lakers' head coaching search has been a slow burn. Many names are rumored to be connected to the team, but there has been no substantial movement in the hiring process.

We've had reports of Mike Krzyzewski being an "unofficial resource" in the coaching search and the Lakers reportedly desiring a hard-working coach who can command a locker room.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers have asked to interview multiple coaches, including New Orleans' James Borrego, Denver's David Adelman, Boston's Sam Cassell, Minnesota's Micah Nori and Miami's Chris Quinn.

James Borrego and Chris Quinn were names we had already heard would be part of this initial wave of interviews, so, unsurprisingly, they are involved.

Borrego has head coaching experience, first with the Orlando Magic and then the Charlotte Hornets. He is currently an assistant for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Quinn has been with the Miami Heat since 2014 and has undoubtedly learned a lot under head coach Erik Spoelstra's leadership.

Micah Nori and David Adleman have also been constantly mentioned for the Lakers' job for weeks now.

Nori is the lead assistant for the Minnesota Timberwolves and has been with the organization since 2021. Adleman has been with the Denver Nuggets since 2017 and is the lead assistant for the defending champions.

Boston Celtic Sam Cassell hasn't been as mentioned as the other coaching candidates, but his name began making its way around NBA circles for the Lakers head coaching position. Cassell has had multiple stops as an assistant coach but has been with the Celtics since 2023.

A name not yet reported having an interview with the Lakers is JJ Redick.

It's important to remember that these are just the first people who will get an interview with the organization. As ESPN reported, they will also interview other coaches with whom the Lakers have more history with and then narrow the list to the final candidates.

This is just the first of many steps towards the Lakers hiring their 27th head coach.
