The excitement continues! Following a captivating first leg, the Champions League quarterfinals continue this week with Europe’s elite-eight reversing their fixtures for the second leg. With a clearer picture of each team’s form and strategy, I’ve compiled a list of eleven players who have the potential to be top performers in UCL Fantasy MD-10.

Goalkeepers

Jan Oblak (6.0, Atlético)

Oblak has amassed 36 fantasy points so far this season, with his most impressive performance coming on MD-6 against Lazio. In that match, he kept a clean sheet and earned a save point. This week, Oblak could be in for a busy outing. With Dortmund hosting and needing to overturn a first-leg deficit, there will be open attack. This means Oblak will have the opportunity to make saves and rack up fantasy points, even if a clean sheet proves elusive.

Ederson (6.0, Man City)

While City hasn’t been the best defensively, clean sheets being a rarity in both the EPL and UCL, Ederson still warrants consideration. This isn’t purely a fan’s pick (although I readily admit to supporting City!).

Here’s the reasoning: The Citizens are a strong attacking force, so if they replicate last season’s dominant 4-0 win over R Madrid, there’s a good chance Ederson will see minimal action and secure a clean sheet.

Defenders

Gvardiol (5.5, Man City)

Gvardiol has been in scintillating form recently, racking up two goals plus an assist in his last two outings. Defenders who contribute to the scoreline are highly valuable, and Gvardiol is certainly fitting that profile right now.

Maatsen (4.6, Dortmund)

This 4.6 million budget defender has secured a starting spot in an attacking Dortmund side. Maatsen’s affordability frees up funds to invest in premium midfielders and attackers. Additionally, his attacking runs present the potential for goals or assists, making him a solid UCL fantasy option.

Nahuel Molina (6.1, Atlético)

Molina has been reliable this season, amassing a total of 47 UCL-Fantasy points.

Even in MD-9, despite conceding a goal, he managed to salvage four points through ball recoveries. This trend is likely to continue in MD-10 as Atlético will likely prioritize defending the 1-goal lead.

Ben White (5.4, Arsenal)

A mainstay in Arsenal’s back line, White boasts a consistent starting record. His attacking presence, characteristic of a fullback, adds another dimension to his fantasy potential.

While a clean sheet is possible, White excels in ball recoveries, having earned four points in this category alone over his last two games. This highlights his active involvement throughout Arsenal’s matches.

Midfielders

Phil Foden (8.2, Man City)

Foden, on fire until his knock and back-to-back rests in EPL, is a top contender for our midfield picks. This season, he’s been a goal machine, directly contributing to 32 goals with 22 strikes and 10 assists.

In leg-1 he continued his stellar form against R Madrid, scoring a goal and racking up 11 fantasy points before limping out in the 87th minute. Fit enough to be an unused sub on the weekend, Foden is almost guaranteed a starting spot in this vital UCL fixture.

Bukayo Saka (9.8, Arsenal)

Arsenal visiting Bayern remains undecided, both teams still very much in the fight. This high-stakes encounter practically guarantees an attacking spectacle, and Saka, known for his goal contributions, should be a key player in that.

~

Serge Gnabry (8.6, Bayern)

Gnabry presents a unique opportunity for your UCL MD-10 team. With an ownership rate of just 1% among fantasy managers, he qualifies as a differential pick. Selecting him for your squad could significantly boost your rankings if he performs well. Gnabry’s capabilities are undeniable, as evidenced by his goal against Arsenal in the last match. Another one bites the dust (hamstring)

~

Jude Bellingham (8.0, Real Madrid)

Despite a subdued home performance against Man City in MD-9, Bellingham remains a top talent. His overall display this season has been exceptional, so a return to form is expected as he travels to the Etihad this week. As a crucial player for Real Madrid, Bellingham has the potential to step up and shine in this high-pressure match.

~

Kevin De Bruyne (10.6, Man City)

For fantasy managers with spare budget, Kevin De Bruyne is a must-consider for your MD-10 midfield. He boasts a phenomenal record against Real Madrid, having notched three goals plus four assists over his last eight encounters. Wednesday’s match presents another opportunity to torment the Spanish giants.

If KDB doesn’t fit your budget, Bernardo Silva is a strong fall-back in the City midfield. Silva remains a valuable pick, offering his own goal and assist threat.

Forwards

Harry Kane (10.1, Bayern)

Kane has been one of the top performing forwards in all of Europe this season, the Englishman contributing to 50 goals in all competitions, including seven goals plus three assists in UCL. Last week against Arsenal, he proved that he’s a player that Bayern can rely on in high-pressure moments. At home against Arsenal, Harry Kane has to be top of your list and a captain candidate besides.

~

Kilian Mbappe (11.5, PSG)

Despite a muted performance in the first leg at home against Barcelona, Mbappé remains a top forward pick for MD-10. A player known for his explosiveness and ability to turn matches around, Mbappé shouldn’t be discounted based on a single quiet outing. His potential for a big performance makes him a strong captaincy candidate this match-week.

Caveat: Though he exploded for a brace at Real Sociodad in MD-8, that was the only road-match in which he has earned more than two points in UCL this season. Maybe he likes playing in Spain? YMMV.

~

Erling Haaland (11.7, Man City)

Haaland’s record against Real Madrid since joining Man City isn’t ideal. However, it’s important to remember his overall caliber. He’s a world-class player who thrives under pressure. Recent criticism often fuels a response from top players, so Haaland could use this match to silence his doubters. With that potential (and a supportive home crowd) in mind, he emerges as another viable captaincy candidate for MD-10.

Editor’ Jeffs sneaky differential (selected by 0% of UCL fantasy managers):

Sebastien Haller (7.6, Dortmund)

Injured most of the season, Haller is back, coming on for the final 30 minutes in MD-9 to score Dortmund’s only goal. Priced only 7.6 and being carefully groomed to full match-fitness in time for this vital UCL home match with goals needed and survival on the line, Haller is primed to explode for a brace or even a hattrick like he did in the previous UCL season.

We will see Dortmund’s confirmed starting lineup before our deadline on Tuesday, so think about what you could do with all the money you’ll liberate if/when you buy Haller in place of someone like Mbappe or Vini Jr. Then you’ll be ready to double-jump in the countdown hour if he starts.

And if you’re extra sneaky (you are so far behind that you just don’t care anymore), you’ll give Haller your C1 armband knowing you have Kane or the like waiting in the wings for Wednesday.

And then Haller went and got a new injury (ankle) in domestic play over the weekend, so he has been ruled out. Back to the drawing board...
