The Dallas Mavericks won the critically important Game 5 over the Oklahoma City Thunder to take a decisive 3-2 series lead on Wednesday night, winning 104-92. Following the game, Josh and I recorded a pretty long show where we really enjoy the performance from the Mavericks.

Lately we’ve been recapping the game, but this show is a bit messy as I am jumping around from item to item. We start with the incredible performance from Luka Doncic. After a putrid and disappointing Game 4 performance, Doncic went out and played basketball in a matter befitting one of the best players on the planet.

After hyper focusing on Doncic, we pivot to the really amazing Dallas defense and what it’s doing to the Thunder offense. 92 points is the fewest the Thunder have scored all regular season and post season. After a brief break for ads, Josh and I finish with a round-about discussion about the weird rotations, SGA’s bad defense, Derrick Jones Jr. and anything else we can come up with.

We labor a bit over the Jason Kidd decision to play Tim Hardaway Jr. and Jaden Hardy together. The line up had been shockingly bad in the regular season, but the Mavericks managed to hang on in those minutes just enough. I wonder if Kidd will try it again. Hardy against played fairly well, so it was a wild experiment mid-playoffs.
