Ingram claimed by Cards, Anderson up

The Rangers added a pitcher to the active roster and lost a pitcher on waivers today

The Texas Rangers have recalled Grant Anderson from AAA Round Rock, the team announced today. Anderson takes the active roster spot that opened up when Josh Sborz was placed on the 15 day injured list yesterday. In addition, the Rangers have announced that relief pitcher Kolton Ingram was claimed on waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals.

With Sborz going to the injured list and Jack Leiter being back in the minors until his next start in a few days, the Rangers were in position to add an arm to the bullpen. Assuming they didn’t want to add someone who wasn’t already on the 40 man roster, their choices were Grant Anderson and Antoine Kelly. Given Anderson has pitched in the majors before and is someone they view as a multi-inning guy, he seemed the guy likely to be picked, and was, in fact, the guy who was picked.

Assuming no one gets hurt between now and Leiter’s next start early next week, either Anderson, Owen White or Yerry Rodriguez will presumably be sent down once Leiter returns.

Meanwhile, lefty reliever Kolton Ingram, who was designated for assignment when the Rangers acquired Robbie Grossman, is now in the Cardinals organization. He had been claimed on waivers by the Rangers from the New York Mets two weeks ago, and never seemed destined to be long for this 40 man roster.
