Watch: Amusing Animated Short 'I Am A Robot' - What Tech Thinks?

I Am A Robot Short Film

"I would do literally anything for them... I'll clean their dirtiest corners." There's nothing humanity could use more right now than a few good laughs at technology. Don't worry, all this tech doesn't really have any feelings anyway. Especially A.I. - all this dumb, idiotic, worthless Artificial Intelligence. This fun animated short film called I Am A Robot will keep you chuckling during its 7 minute runtime. It first debuted a few months ago, but I just caught it now. "I was just trying to sign up for an account, not be confronted with the fact that our fear of technology is actually based on a reflection of our own cruel, morally compromised, and violent behavior," explains writer & director Sean Buckelew. I Am A Robot is about a roomba with a foot fetish, a violent self-driving car, and a supercomputer that wants to kill us all (ha ha..?). Voices including Kevin Gregory Krieger, Courtney Pauroso, Amrita Kaur Dhaliwal. Turn off your devices and enjoy.

Watch: 'Impossible Journey' A Maternal Health Care Animated Short

Impossible Journey Short Film

"Maternity is a beautiful yet unequal journey." Did you know: 43% of black women have an increased risk of miscarriage. Black mothers are 2x more likely to experience post-partum hemorrhaging. This is a crisis that needs to be addressed. This beautiful animated short film hopes to bring even more attention to this maternal health care problem in America. Impossible Journey is a 5-minute animated doc film directed by a Brazilian directing duo known as "YUCA". The journey of two storks for another ordinary day of work will expose the urgent crisis. The film was built by a mostly female team. Each frame was printed & painted meticulously to reveal the layers of reality that our protagonist experiences throughout the story. It's quite stunning. Every aspect of the animation has metaphorical construction and meaning, just like all the whole project built around it. There's a terrific doc film titled Aftershock (available on Hulu) that is also about the unacceptably high number of issues Black women experience with pregnancy. Info on how to help here.

Watch This: Sci-Fi Short Film Trilogy 'FLOAT3RS' - About A.I. Drones

FLOAT3RS Short Film

"FLOAT3RS - ChatGPT today, Shit ICBM’s tomorrow." Ha ha. A funny sci-fi short film riffing on A.I. called Float3rs is available to watch online now. This is actually the third short in a trilogy of CG animated short films called Floaters, following stories of robots getting into trouble (watch all three below). Float3rs is a wry look at Artificial Intelligence that is so advanced, that it's no longer that intelligent. (Aren't we already there? Ha...) This time we join up with three floating warheads as they discover that there may be a bug or two in their latest operating system update. Good news for anyone wondering: "no AI was harmed or, more importantly, used during the making of the new Float3rs." The A.I. drones in this latest short are voiced by Lucy Briggs-Owen (Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Civilization), Verity Henry (Coronation Street, Hebburn) and Kathryn Bond (Urban Myths, Semi-Detached). It's under 5 minutes and it's funny! If you need a good laugh at the expense of some dumb robots, these shorts should do the trick. Let AI proves its worthlessness.

Aside from being super creative & visually dynamic, this music video has successfully introduced me to RM and his music. Lee, Hee Shin, Stephany Yujin, Natalia Bulynia, Tarsvinder Singh Sihra, Miji Yi, Yasamin Saadati, & Kasra Nemati. Get lost with RM below.

Watch: Short Film 'SPOTS: A Way of Seeing'- A Skateboarder Analysis

Spots: A Way of Seeing Short Film

"Why can't you go skate at the skatepark instead?" Ah yes, the frustrating question skateboarders are asked day after day. This clever short titled SPOTS: A Way of Seeing addresses that question with thoughtful scientific analysis. Spots is a short film from skateboarder / filmmaker Daniel Paese, taking a close look at the "spots" skaters choose and what makes them so appealing. It's a visual presentation by Paese's research facility delving into the phenomena of "SPOTS" - showing everyone why they love to skate around on the "wild" architecture of the streets... "The world of naturally occurring spots is so vast and complex, that it is virtually impossible to catalog and define in its entirety." Starring Avery Miller, Max Wheeler, Alex Kehoe, Austin Garner, Chris Landers. I dig everything about this! The narration is fun, the editing is (ahem) spot on, the shots are clean. It really does feel like I learned something watching this. Check it out! Enjoy below.

Watch: Disney Animation's Brand New Donald Duck Short 'D.I.Y. Duck'

D.I.Y. Duck Short Film

Everyone's favorite "Donald" is back! The iconic character Donald Duck returns in a brand new short film made by Disney Animation Studios. This premiered for streaming this past weekend to celebrate the 90th birthday, rather 90th anniversary, of the character created by the original Walt Disney and his animators (specifically Dick Lundy). The extra grumpy duck made his first cartoon appearance on June 9th, 1934 as a supporting character in the short The Wise Little Hen, and most recently appeared in Once Upon a Studio. The new short film is called D.I.Y. Duck, and it features Donald trying to fix a lightbulb in his home, going back-n-forth to the hardware store as more problems arise during his attempts to get the new bulb to work. Disney has also re-released a few remastered classic Donald Duck short films, including Crazy Over Daisy and Out on a Limb, with all of them launching for streaming on Disney+ for audiences to enjoy. This is only 2 mins long and it's classic cartoon comedy at its best. How many ducks does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Watch: Funny, Cute 4-Minute Animated Short Film 'Zoon' w/ Axolotls

Zoon Short Film

Look at all these cute lil' buggers! Crawling around and being adorable. But wait, what happens next? This amusing 4-minute animated short film called Zoon is now online for everyone to watch. It first premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and has been screening at tons of other festivals for the past two years. Zoon is created and directed by German animation filmmaker Jonatan Schwenk, who really loves hybrid animation and always cooks up clever concepts in his funky stop-motion shorts. (He also did sound design for this short Rules of Play with his friend Merlin Flügel.) Residing in a swamp at the bottom of a nocturnal forest, a group of gleaming axolotls pursue lustful games. The creatures relish nuzzling one another & also nibbling their companions' limbs. One review says this is about "the beauty and cruelty of nature." Though I'd argue that what happens in the second half is more about the idiocy and careless of humanity, messing around with things they have no understanding of. As usual. Maybe you have another interpretation of this?

Sublime Eternal Love Music Video

Ready for a 3-minute excursion into the mind of David Lynch? Click play on this new music video created by the mastermind filmmaker David Lynch in his next collaboration with singer Chrystabell. This isn't the first time they've collaborated, this will be their third album together. The music video Lynch created is for one of the songs "Sublime Eternal Love" off of the new album called "Cellophane Memories" - arriving in August. There's not much to it, don't expecting anything totally crazy, but it is undeniably a Lynch creation for sure. Chrystabell & Lynch have had a relationship for years - in 1999, an agent introduced her. Together, they've released two albums before this one – This Train (2011) and Somewhere in the Nowhere (2016). She also appeared on the 2017 revival of Twin Peaks as Special Agent Tamara Preston. In an interview, Lynch explains he was inspired to make this "during a nighttime walk through a forest of tall trees" when a bright light became Chrystabell’s voice, and in signature Lynch fashion, "revealed a secret to him." Sure, why not?
