Buffalo Bills sign S Dee Delaney, release WR Quintez Cephus

The Buffalo Bills have signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dee Delaney to a one-year deal. As a result of Delaney’s signing Thursday morning, wide receiver Quintez Cephus — who signed with the Bills one day after the draft — was subsequently released.

This move signals the continued efforts by One Bills Drive to improve every corner of their roster as the offseason evolves.

The 29-year-old undrafted free agent out of The Citadel has spent five seasons with three teams — the Jacksonville Jaguars, Washington Commanders and most recently, the Buccaneers.

Delaney appeared in just three total games and generated nothing on the stat sheet in two seasons with Jacksonville and Washington in 2018 and 2019, respectively. But Delaney did display his ball-hawking skills over the past three seasons with Tampa Bay. He accumulated 71 tackles, seven pass deflections and three interceptions in 49 appearances.

Buffalo certainly needed some more safety depth and Delaney will likely battle for a final roster spot alongside Damar Hamlin. Ahead of them, safeties Taylor Rapp, Mike Edwards and rookie second-rounder, Cole Bishop are expected to lead the safety room in terms of snaps and production.
