Comments:
I've moved Baylor ahead of Gonzaga for the overall #1 seed. They defeated Texas, the 2nd place team in the Big 12 and now are three games ahead in the loss column over Texas. They not only have a win at Texas but a win at Texas Tech. Their win over Illinois back in November (by double digits) looks really good right now. Their win now beats Gonzaga's win over Iowa. Without a doubt if Baylor and Gonzaga both finish undefeated Baylor will be the overall #1 seed.
Villanova was stunned this past week at St. John's. Houston blew a golden opportunity at a #1 seed by losing at East Carolina. So their loss is Ohio State's gain. The Buckeyes now have wins at Iowa and at Illinois among their seven (7) Quad 1 wins, more than any team.
You probably already read my bracket and other than Ohio State I'm sure you are wondering why Maryland (#6 seed) is ahead of Creighton (#7 seed). Their NET rankings are pretty close (Maryland #38, Creighton #34). But here are their Quad breakdowns:
Maryland: Q1: 4-8, Q2: 0-0, Q3: 3-0, Q4: 2-0
Creighton: Q1: 3-1, Q2: 5-1, Q3: 1-3, Q4: 4-0
Creighton lost THREE Quad 3 games, all three of them at home, including this past Wednesday vs. Georgetown. Maryland lost more games but all of them were Quad 1 games. Among Maryland's Quad 1 wins were road wins over Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Creighton's best win by NET was over #35 Xavier at home (a Quad 2 win) and their best Quad 1 win was at Connecticut (#43). Maryland had the 2nd toughest schedule and the 34th toughest non conference schedule. Creighton's non conference schedule was ranked 305th.
Enjoy the Super Bowl!
