Insider gives encouraging Jaxson Robinson update if he returns to school

Sounds like the Cats are in a good spot if Robinson stays in school.

Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats have two scholarships remaining as they look to fill out the roster for the 2024-25 season.

Several names have gotten a lot of buzz recently, but one has been tied to the Cats since Pope was announced as the new Head Coach in Lexington.

That player would be Jaxson Robinson.

Currently going through the NBA Draft process, Robinson burst onto the scene for BYU last season, which has got him projected as a mid-to-late second-round pick in the NBA Draft next month. That projection has, however, left a question among the BBN and most college basketball circles: Will Robinson keep his name in the draft?

That question seems to still be up in the air, but things continue to trend in the right direction for Kentucky if he does withdraw by the May 29th deadline.

According to a report by Sarah Todd of Deseret News, several sources close to the situation really like Kentucky’s chances to land Robinson.

“Multiple sources close to the situation told the Deseret News that if Robinson decides to withdraw from the draft, they fully expect him to be playing for Kentucky next season,” writes Todd.

It’s worth noting that the Kansas Jayhawks are now seen as a major contender for Robinson if he returns to school, but Kentucky will obviously still be a major player.

At the moment, it appears that Robinson and North Florida transfer guard Chaz Lanier are the two players with the most traction to take one of the final roster spots. Add one of them, and the roster immediately adds a go-to-scorer to help with the solid depth built by Coach Pope and his staff.

This could be a situation where Kentucky takes a commitment from whoever is willing to commit first. And as of now, Lanier is likelier to make a decision first, so there’s a chance Kentucky lands him, and Robinson returns to school down the road before landing at Kansas.

We are still on ‘BOOM’ watch, BBN. Let's see if one of Lanier/Robinson will join the fold.
