Saints move Taliese Fuaga to the left during rookie minicamp

What is the meaning behind this experiment?

Going into the NFL Draft, the growing feeling was that the New Orleans Saints would draft a right tackle. This was emphasized by the growing feeling that Ryan Ramczyk could retire due to his knee injuries. It felt like Taliese Fuaga would be the perfect choice for where the Saints were picking, and that is just what happened. During this weekend’s minicamp, Dennis Allen said that they were starting Fuaga off at left tackle during practices.

This move is interesting, but what does it mean? It seems that the Saints still think Fuaga will be their right tackle when the season starts, but they want to evaluate if he can play on the left. Seems like they are looking to test this out because it is an unknown. Fuaga only played right tackle and right guard in college, so if he can prove that playing on the left side is also viable, then his importance skyrockets. Also, if Ryan Ramczyk can somehow play this season, then Fuaga can play on the left. It is also important because if Trevor Penning does not improve this season, then the Saints can draft a right tackle and put Fuaga at left. This move by the Saints is not the team changing his position for the regular season, but just a way to see potential contingency plans.
