What to watch for: Saints Rookie Minicamp

This is the first chance to see the newest Saints in action.

NFL: New Orleans Saints Rookie Minicamp Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

It’s time to get back on the football field.

Rookie minicamp is this weekend throughout the NFL and for the New Orleans Saints, it’s an opportunity to see your draft picks and UDFAs in action.

Here’s a few points to keep an eye on for the weekend:

How does Taliese Fuaga come out?

There’s going to be a ton of pressure on the offensive line prospect that the Saints drafted 14th overall and now gave a fully guaranteed deal before he steps foot on the field. It appears that Ryan Ramcyzk will be good to go, but Fuaga will have to step in at left tackle while Trevor Penning could move inside to left guard. So, it’ll be important to see what kind of first impression, even on a smaller scale like rookie camp, the Oregon State product can make.

Skill players make an impact

Everybody has been raving about the talent coming in for the skill players, with Bub Means being drafted in the fifth round and signing Dallin Holker, Kyle Sheets, Jacob Kibodi, and others to UDFA deals. How will these guys look to perform in positions where there’s a chance to get reps when the preseason rolls around and earn a spot on the final 53-man roster for the season. A good start with the rest of the rookies can go a long way in terms of impressing the coaching staff.

SPENCER RATTLER

That’s it. That’s the story.

Everybody’s eyes will be on the South Carolina quarterback as he comes in and is already projected by some people to be the backup quarterback before camp. He’s matured a lot since everything that went down in high school and at Oklahoma, and you can’t deny the talent that he brings to the offense. If he can build chemistry with the young playmakers early on, there’s no telling what this summer could hold for Rattler.
