The Nightly: May 17th, 2024

Hello Nightly!!!

Tonight, we take a look at Backlash 2021, which was called Wrestlemania Backlash here, for some dumb reason.

Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship:

Decent triple threat match.

Dirty Dawgs vs. The Mysterios for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships:

This was primarily a handicap match as Dominik had been taken out by Roode and Ziggler earlier in the night. The Mysterios would win and become the first father/son tag team champions.

The Miz vs. Damian Priest in a Zombie Lumberjack Match:

This was one of the worst and dumbest things I’ve ever seen in wrestling.

Bianca Belair vs. Bayley for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship:

Dull match.

Braun Strowman vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship:

Easily the best match on the show.

Cesaro vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship:

This match had its moments, but it was too long and too slow.

Overall, while not a colossal disaster on par with 2017 or 2020, this was still a bad Backlash. It didn’t help that this was happening during WWE’s arguably darkest period, with a combination of bad creative direction and releasing various superstars of high caliber talent for no reason.

On to the Nightly.
