‘Tom of Finland’ Biopic Lands at Kino Lorber Ahead of Tribeca Premiere

Kino Lorber has acquired all North American rights to “Tom of Finland,” Dome Karukoski’s biopic about the life and work of Finnish artist and gay icon Touko Laaksonen.

Best known by his pseudonym Tom of Finland, Laaksonen drew thousands of fantasy-filled, homoerotic images of muscular men. The images played a significant role in the transnational gay liberation movement.

Tom of Finland” will have its North American premiere at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival, after world premiering at the Goteborg Film Festival in February. It’s also earned almost $1 million at the Finnish box office.

The deal was negotiated between Vanessa Saal for Protagonist Pictures and Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber.

Mauro Borrelli, an illustrator whose long line of credits include Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Hateful Eight and Captain America: First Avenger and director of films such as the recent R.J. Mitte and Wesley Snipes-starring sci-fi film The Recall, is set to direct the upcoming action thriller E-Ghost.

Based on a story by Borrelli, the film will center around a young genius who uses the dark net to create a superhero using a hologram generated by a futuristic action video game. As the first to crack the game's encryption, he unleashes stunning and terrifying possibilities.

Marc Platt Boards Film Adaptation of Political Broadway Play 'Oslo' (Exclusive)
