George again, with a few closing comments.

Yes, we will be filming in Malta, rather than returning to Morocco. The Knights Hospitaller were kind enough to build some great sets for us.

"Mhaegan" is little Barra's mother. She has no name in the novel.

Two more directors have been named. This was news to me as well. I'm excited too.

Lysa's son has been renamed for the series. "Robin" instead of "Robert," as in the books. He's still Sweetrobin.

Marillion has not been renamed, though I offered to do so. I was tired of people assuming he was named after the band. I had never heard of the band when I named him, though I've heard a lot about them since.

'nuff said. This should give you plenty to chew on for a few days... while casting continues and we nail down a few more parts. Lots more still to come, including Osha, Shae, and Twyin.

I still have only one real complaint so far and that is Michelle Fairley as Catelyn Stark, but I will allow this fine actress to persuade me otherwise when the time comes. Age be damned.

Hey George, isn't there kind of a big bad spoiler in that cast list?? It's got Egg's last name.

Otherwise, YAY!

The character in question would be Egg's brother, not Egg himself, and it's a detail one wouldn't really know without reading "The Hedge Knight" in the first place. :)

All this news about the show has been very exciting. Knowing that you're part of it reassures me that the translation from book to screen will be handled in the best way. I'm really looking forward to seeing it!

Terrific, George! I can hardly wait to see everything on a screen instead of just in my head. I imagine this is a lot of work for you. Make sure you take some time to play. Thank you so much for this update! There's some wonderful casting going on here.

I am very much looking forward to this, but somehow had got the idea that Jennifer Ehle was playing Catelyn Stark. Is this a figment of my imagination or was there a cast change?

Jerome Flynn is Bronn? Really? I mean, Bronn is, like, the hottest character in the books. I'm a little disappointed now. Plus, I'm drunk, and have never posted on lj before, so please don't take me seriously.

Once the series progresses past the first book, I call dibs on playing Asha ;)

So far the only disappointments for me have been the Tully sisters.

Lysa is supposed to be a larger woman, isn't she? Soft and doughy and super overly-feminine?

And Catelyn... Well, Jennifer Ehle was a great first choice... but the second choice looks nothing like Catelyn (who is supposed to have retained her youthful beauty). Isn't Cersei older than Catelyn as well? I would not have imagined Catelyn as such an older woman... or as homely. Perhaps it sounds shallow, but she's always described as still being beautiful by Westeros standards.

Everyone else is so spot on, though.

Yep, I totally agree. Perhaps Fairley is going to give a super convincing performance and she'll just *be* Catelyn instead of looking like her, but... I can't help but think that having Cersei as the beautiful, sexy femme fatale, and Catelyn as the older, plainer woman, is a bit of a stereotypical choice that takes away from the nuanced characterizations of the books - not to mention the Catelyn/Lysa juxtaposition, too.
