Liberia - At Work Together-United Nations in Liberia

In Liberia, the UN is made up of two key components. One is the UN Country Team (UNCT), a collection of 16 specialized agencies, funds and programmes and the World Bank. These, along with the International Monetary Fund, are present on a long-term basis to support humanitarian and development efforts in the country. The other is the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), mandated by the Security Council to secure the peace until the Liberian state can take over that responsibility.

Tanzania: Norwegian PM Praises Progress on UN Reforms

Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg has commended progress made so far on the pilot project in Tanzania to harmonise United Nations (UN) activities. The premier who was in the country this week on a two-day official visit held a brief joint press conference with UN Resident Coordinator Oscar Fernandez-Taranco in Dar es Salaam where he expressed optimism on the success of the 'One UN' reform initiative.

To support the 2007 stocktaking of Delivering as One pilots, the Stanley Foundation, an NGO, focused its 39th United Nations Issues Conference on the subject. The conference was held March 14-16, 2008, in Tarrytown, New York, and gathered permanent representatives and senior officials from many UN member states. This policy dialogue brief outlines the Stanley Foundation's independent interpretation of the conference’s findings and recommendations.
