Early Sudan returns heavily for secession; government prepares to lead

Nearly 99 percent of South Sudanese have voted for secession in a closely-watched referendum, according to preliminary returns released Friday, 21 January.  The referendum is part of a peace deal signed in 2005 which ended 20 years of civil war.
